SUMMARY

The SVP, Associate General Counsel will report to the Chief Legal Officer/General Counsel and play a critical leadership role within the Company's Legal Department and across the organization. This senior attorney will manage and mentor other attorneys in the Legal Department, anticipate and mitigate potential legal and regulatory risks, provide legal support and strategic legal advice to cross-functional business partners, and ensure the Company's operations remain compliant with all applicable state and federal financial services laws. This individual will be responsible for identifying and analyzing legal issues, drafting documents, reviewing complex contracts, managing defensive litigation, presenting recommendations to cross-functional business partners, and ensuring legal compliance for the organization.

MAJOR DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead, supervise, and mentor a team of attorneys and legal staff, fostering professional growth and collaboration.

  • Advise cross-functional business units on all relevant legal and regulatory matters.

  • Assist with overseeing the legal department's operations, including workflow management and coordination of external counsel.

  • Prepare, review, negotiate, and advise on complex legal documents, including commercial contracts.

  • Prepare correspondence with regulators, customers, and opposing counsel.

  • Monitor and conduct legal research regarding state and federal consumer lending laws and regulations.

  • Identify, analyze, and communicate legal risks and opportunities related to new products, services, and delivery channels.

  • Manage defensive litigation, arbitration, and regulatory matters, including strategy development and case oversight.

  • Assist General Counsel with higher-level matters, as needed.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS
  • JD degree and admission to a state bar required.

  • Licensed to practice law in at least one state in the United States.

  • 12+ years of progressive legal experience, with significant exposure to consumer financial services, regulatory compliance, contract review, and litigation.

  • Significant background working for a FinTech, bank, credit union, non-depository lending institution, state or federal consumer financial services regulatory agency, or with a large law firm representing consumer financial services companies.

  • Experience managing attorneys or legal teams either in-house, at a government agency, or at a law firm.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong ability to clearly articulate complex legal analysis to a general audience.

  • Superior ability to think critically and analyze complex business and legal issues in a fast-paced environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to provide hands-on and strategic counsel to all levels of leadership.

  • Exceptional judgment, outstanding inter-personal skills, and a teamwork-oriented attitude.

  • Proven track record of managing and ensuring legal compliance for a complex organization.

COMPENSATION
  • The salary range for this position is competitive based on the job duties as well as the specific Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Experience of the selected candidate.

  • This position is eligible for Semi Annual Incentive compensation based on individual and company performance guidelines.
