Position Summary

The Procurement Assistant supports the purchasing and supply chain functions for a welding supply and steel construction operation. This role is responsible for processing purchase orders, tracking material deliveries, maintaining vendor relationships, monitoring inventory levels, and ensuring materials, tools, consumables, and equipment are available to support fabrication, construction, and field operations. The Procurement Assistant plays a critical role in maintaining accurate purchasing records, controlling costs, and coordinating timely delivery of products needed for business operations.

Key Responsibilities Purchasing & Procurement

· Create and process purchase orders for steel products, welding consumables, tools, safety equipment, and construction materials.

· Obtain and compare vendor quotes to support cost-effective purchasing decisions.

· Monitor order status and follow up with suppliers to ensure on-time delivery.

· Assist in negotiating pricing, delivery schedules, and terms with vendors.

· Maintain purchasing records, contracts, and supplier documentation.

Inventory Management

· Monitor inventory levels and identify replenishment needs.

· Assist with cycle counts and physical inventories.

· Coordinate with warehouse personnel to verify receipt of purchased materials.

· Investigate and resolve receiving discrepancies, shortages, and damaged shipments.

· Maintain accurate inventory and purchasing data within company systems.

Vendor Coordination

· Develop and maintain professional relationships with vendors and suppliers.

· Communicate delivery schedules, order changes, and procurement requirements.

· Track supplier performance regarding quality, pricing, and delivery reliability.

Logistics & Scheduling

Administrative Support

Preferred Qualifications

· High school diploma or equivalent.

· Associate degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Construction Management, or related field preferred.

· 1–3 years of purchasing, procurement, inventory, warehouse, or administrative experience preferred.

· Experience in construction, steel fabrication, industrial supply, manufacturing, or welding industries is highly preferred.

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.

· Experience with ERP, inventory, or purchasing software preferred.
