General Construction Carpenter & Equipment Operator

Reports To: Project Manager / Site Supervisor

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Employment Status: Full Time (Onsite)

Salary: $30-$35 per hour based on experience

Schedule: Full-Time; hours vary based on project needs and site schedules

Location: Rochester | Multiple Commercial Job Sites (travel may be required)

POSITION SUMMARY:

The General Construction Carpenter & Equipment Operator is responsible for performing skilled carpentry work on commercial construction projects while operating heavy equipment to support job site operations. This role requires a combination of hands-on building experience and equipment operation, with a strong focus on safety, precision, and productivity. The ideal candidate is reliable, detail-oriented, and experienced in both construction and machinery use, with the ability to work efficiently in fast-paced job site environments.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Carpentry Duties

  • Measure, cut, and assemble wood, metal, and other materials
  • Construct frameworks, walls, floors, and roofs for commercial structures
  • Install doors, windows, drywall, and finishing elements
  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications
  • Ensure all structures are level, plumb, and meet code requirements
  • Perform repairs, adjustments, and modifications as needed

Equipment Operation

  • Operate heavy equipment such as skid steers, forklifts, and backhoes
  • Load, unload, and transport materials across job sites
  • Perform routine equipment inspections and basic maintenance
  • Follow all safety procedures and guidelines while operating machinery

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIRMENTS:

  • Proven experience in commercial carpentry
  • Experience operating construction equipment (certifications preferred)
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction documents
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and tools
  • OSHA safety knowledge (OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 preferred)
  • Ability to lift heavy materials and work in physically demanding environments
  • Willingness to travel between job sites as needed
