Job description

SUMMARY:
The Virtual Construction Engineer is a hands-on technical role responsible for executing BIM and Virtual Construction (VC) tasks that directly support construction operations. This position focuses on coordination, constructability analysis, and technical problem solving.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Construction Management, Engineering, Surveying, Geomatics, or a related field, or equivalent years of work experience

  • At least one (1) year of experience in Operations preferred

  • Basic understanding of BIM industry clash detection software

  • Ability to follow standardized procedures and field safety protocols

  • Strong organizational and communication skills

  • Ability to follow departmental standards and accept technical direction

  • Demonstrated interest in technical skill development and continued learning

TECHNICAL JOB KNOWLEDGE:
  • Independently performs BIM/VDC project setup, including folder structures, naming conventions, file processing, and federated model management in accordance with project controls and company standards.

  • Leads BIM-based trade coordination from project kick-off through completion, including clash detection, issue tracking and resolution, integration of shop drawings, submittals, RFIs, point cloud data, and preparation of coordination reports.

  • Produces and oversees BIM/VDC deliverables, including coordinated trade composite drawings (TCDs), request-for-interpretation support documents, overlay studies, site logistics plans, and 3D/4D visualizations aligned with construction schedule milestones.

  • Applies departmental Virtual Construction standards and QA/QC procedures to ensure model accuracy, coordination completeness, and alignment with project coordinates.

  • Collaborates with Field Engineering, Operations, and Reality Capture teams to define project requirements, point-of-origin selection, and integration of reality capture data for construction use.

  • Evaluates options and proposes technical solutions to resolve coordination conflicts and constructability challenges.

  • Maintains up-to-date federated models for use by operations and project teams and tracks adjustments to VC deliverable schedules, communicating changes from the original plan.

  • Provides guidance and oversight to junior staff, ensuring efficient workflows and quality completion of assignments.

  • Troubleshoots technical and software-related issues, selects appropriate BIM tools and workflows based on project scope and complexity, and supports advanced VDC processes including 3D printing, high-fidelity renderings, and 360 photo-to-model comparisons.

  • Stays current with advancements in BIM and Virtual Construction technologies and provides recommendations for improvements to equipment, software, and workflow processes.

The base salary (or hourly) range for this position is
$78,000.00 - $95,000.00
