Construction Project Manager
Wayne State University is searching for an experienced Construction Project Manager at its Detroit campus location.

Essential functions (job duties):
Job Purpose
Manage, plan and consult on the implementation of new construction, alteration, and renovation projects.
Serve as liaison with appropriate university personnel and contractors and designers providing specialized technical architectural, engineering and construction expertise in determining scope and budgets for planning, construction and renovation needs.
Essential Functions
Manage the development and implementation of new construction and renovation projects, serving as the liaison for the university with university personnel, designers and contractors as required through project completion. Conduct feasibility studies; scope definition and assure compliance with codes and standards, including National Fire Protection Life Safety Code, Americans with Disabilities Act requirements, including WSU Construction Design Standards, etc. Provide overall project management on concurrent projects while adhering to university priorities and policies. Ensure timely development and completion of punch list, transfer of close-out documents, facilities operations training, and project closure.
Develop budgets for capital projects. Maintain a documented real-time understanding of project budget performance, ensuring project stays within budget.
Prepare total project duration schedules, from planning through move in activities. Proactively assist in the management of design and construction phase activities by effectively planning, anticipating and coordinating tasks with impacted parties and customers. Maintain a current and documented understanding of the status of project activities to monitor and control schedule performance.
Develop contracts for designers, contractors and other outside supporting entities; develop bidding documents to obtain competitive proposals. Prepare minutes of meetings, and construction schedules. Process all related invoices and construction pay applications in accordance with university practices and policies and procedures. Review for accuracy and approve applications for payment and related project invoices.
Work with computer based project-tracking systems for project management.
Attend professional seminars and symposiums; review literary magazines, trade journals, and informational publications to keep abreast of technological advancements in specialized subjects. Attend meetings and serve on committees, as required.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in architecture, engineering (mechanical, electrical, structural), construction management, or a related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted.
Experience
Must possess a minimum of five years experience.
Seven years experience preferred.
Experience in construction supervision, preparation of budgets, development of project schedules, development and interpretation of construction documents, and all aspects of construction contract administration.
Experience in architectural and engineering design, including coordination of mechanical, electrical and structural systems.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Requires working knowledge of all aspects of construction practices, including but not limited to, applying contract language, invoicing, American Institute of Architects Applications for Payment, sworn statements, waivers, certified payrolls, time and materials breakouts, materials and labor payment bonds, performance bonds, warranties, as-builts, punch lists, experience in project closeout procedures, etc.
Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently, prioritize and plan work activities while meeting respective deadlines.
Refined organizational and time-management skills.
Refined interpersonal skills are mandatory. Must relate to people in an open, friendly and acceptable manner; establish and maintain effective relationships with customers. Must be able to vigorously protect the University's interests.
Ability to communicated clearly, concisely and professionally both verbally and in writing.
Understanding of basic finance, accounting and cost analysis. Ability to develop and manage a budget. Ability to develop justifications for funding requests.
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project. Knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit desirable.
