Job description

Overview

Responsible for assisting project teams and Engineering Managers on large scale multi-disciplined projects to ensure a high level of communication, coordination, and quality in the design and delivery of the project engineering documents.  The Construction Engineer will work with the Engineering Manager and engineering consultants to support both the project operations team and the client and will ensure that all design-related requirements are fulfilled. Duties include document review, document management, schedule management, deliverable submittals, construction support, consultant management, and ensuring that design deliverables are clear, accurate, and in accordance with project requirements.

Location & Travel Details: This position is an office based position in one of the following office locations: Fargo, ND; Indy, IN; Clinton, IN; Phx, AZ; Dallas, TX - with no per diem or relocation.

Responsibilities
  • Promote and comply with all Company safety policies and procedures
  • Attend pre-construction and Engineering of Record (EOR) design meetings and keep accurate minutes with actions to ensure timely design development.
  • Perform administrative and coordination reviews of engineering deliverables for completeness, required documentation, revision control, and compliance with project submission requirements prior to Engineering Manager review and approval
  • Manage document control in Procore for all engineering drawings and deliverables
  • Assist in preparation of regular engineering schedule updates to project stakeholders
  • Assist in review of EOR submitted bill of material
  • Manage engineering Requests for Information (RFIs) process
  • Administer the engineering RFI process by logging, tracking, distributing, and documenting RFIs, responses, and resolution status
  • Coordinate with Engineering Managers, Engineers of Record (EORs), and project stakeholders to ensure timely responses and proper documentation
  • Assist the Engineering Manager by tracking engineering deliverables, scope changes, and consultant activities that may impact engineering budgets or project schedules
  • Provide engineering documentation, drawing revisions, and design assumptions to support Estimating and Engineering Manager requests during proposal and pre-construction activities
  • Coordinate with the Engineering Manager to answer design questions, and provide construction support as needed
  • Assist Engineering Managers with the review of design documents for completeness, constructability considerations, adherence to company standards, and consistency with project requirements
  • Coordinate meetings, documentation, and tracking of value engineering concepts and alternate design proposals for Engineering Manager and stakeholder review
  • Travel to project sites as required
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Work Experience and Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field, or equivalent work experience
  • One to three years of related work experience preferred
  • Experience in renewable energy, power generation, and/or medium/high voltage systems preferred
  • Experience with cost estimation of designs preferred
  • Computer proficiency with; AutoCAD Viewer, Procore, InEight, Microsoft Office Suite experience preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Take reasonable care of your own and others’ health and safety and of those who may be affected by the day-to-day delivery of this role by taking personal responsibility for working toward the Company’s Zero Injury principles
  • Read, analyze and interpret drawings, professional journals, technical procedures, contracts or governmental regulations
  • Write reports, business correspondence and document project activities
  • Effectively present information and respond to questions from project managers, superintendents, clients, customers and the general public
  • Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
  • Ability to work independently and effectively with project managers, clients, consulting engineers, design, and technical personnel as well as manufacturing partners
  • Open-minded, creative, and possess the ability to modify and expand theories to find creative solutions within the confines of the code
  • Must be confident; must possess the ability to substantiate code interpretations and mathematically prove design concepts
  • The ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects is a must
  • Solid written and oral communication skills are a must
  • Ability to effectively communicate design concepts and lead meetings between clients, project engineers, code officials and third-party consultants
