The Inventory Specialist function is a critical component of Smith+Nephew's overall US Supply Chain strategy. We are the last mile and the difference between success and failure in thousands of hospitals and surgery centers each day, where our customers are helping their patients improve their lives. It can and will be stressful, but it is rewarding knowing that you played a critical part in the positive outcome for a patient whose life is being restored through our products. You are responsible for maintaining accurate inventory records of products as they flow through the territory. Accountability of products missing from sets is crucial to ensure proper billings. You will be responsible for case coverage, inventory management, and analyzing data.
Inventory Specialist is an on-site member of the Logistics Team in a territory sales office(s). This role is responsible for managing and implementing company inventory and asset management policies and procedures for territory and/or area level. This includes maximizing asset utilization and minimizing inventory/instrument investment as well as maintaining accurate records of product placements. This role is responsible for coordinating surgery schedules, preparing and ensuring accurate and timely delivery of instruments and implants sets for surgery. Good working knowledge of company products, operating system, and procedures is critical.
What will you be doing? (includes the following. Other duties may be assigned.)
  • Performs work duties accomplishing daily goals, including but not limited to, the picking of Finished Goods, packing of Finished Goods, maintaining inventory accuracy, sourcing cases, and overcommunication to the sales reps.
  • Manage inventory levels across the sales district, ensuring the right quantities are in the right place. Additionally, you will manage the quality of our products in the field.
  • Ensure all product recall activity is performed immediately to ensure compliance to all required. Coordinate with Quality and Regulatory to ensure verify and ensure all compliance procedures are followed.
  • Ensure consignment locations have valid consignment agreements and/or custody cards as required. Perform Field Cycle Counts as required.
  • Coordinate and participate in territory physical inventories ensure all preparation guidelines are performed, conduct counts, and perform required physical inventory reconciliation. Ensure minimal location/account variances and ensure adjustments (positive/negative) meet established company variance percentages and dollar amounts.
  • Perform field location/account visits/reviews to ensure consigned inventory instruments and implants are verified with account and ensure after reviews that instrument sets and implant inventory levels are correct and adjusted accordingly. Reconciliation variances should be addressed with the appropriate sales representative(s) and management.
  • Perform IAP validations semi-annually and ensure all required adjustments are performed to maintain accurate IAP records.
  • Analyze inventory asset levels to maximize utilization and to provide improved sales performance providing recommendations and executing appropriate strategies. Perform Instrument and implant utilization analysis to identify opportunities, inventory efficiencies with sales management and sales force. Ensure compliance of company asset utilization goals and objectives.
  • Partner with the sales management team, sales force and logistics management to ensure excellent sales support.
  • Perform period, quarterly and annual product reporting to provide guidance for set and inventory deployments.
  • Perform analysis/reporting affecting all P&L related territory and/or area operations (i.e. Stock Withdrawal budget, freight analysis, courier usage, etc.).
  • Process all required order entry as directed to maintain and manage scheduled surgery cases on a daily basis.
  • Perform MOVE system reviews with Field Logistics Specialist to ensure excellent sales product support for surgeries and assess Kit utilization to ensure maximum utilization.
  • Required to perform on call support as required.
  • Must be able to understand and perform the functions and procedures pertaining to the efficient operation of warehousing.
  • Perform daily/period freight activity reviews on all FedEx and courier usage to ensure costing is correct and most economical. Determine and ensure the least cost method of providing product to customer is performed. This includes Mobile vans, Courier, and freight utilization is being monitored and reviewed each period.
  • Must be willing to learn our software Systems such as Move Medical and SAP used on a daily basis.
  • Must be able to train and direct other personnel in their duties, both clerical and physical.

Education:
  • High school Diploma or equivalency required
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred

Experience:
  • A minimum of 2 to 5 years' experience in a related field, e.g. Operations, Logistics, Business Analyst, Business Consultant

Physical Demands:
  • Must be able to lift 75 lbs. Standing, walking, bending, stooping, pushing, and pulling commonly occurring for long periods of time

Licenses/Certifications:
  • Valid Driver's License with clean record
