Operatory SurgicalCoding Specialist

Hours:Monday - Friday

Position Summary

We areseekinga detail-oriented and clinically knowledgeable Operatory SurgicalCoding Specialistto join our Operatory team. In this role, you will ensureaccurateposting of surgical cases, proper billing of supplies and implants, and correct CPT/HCPCS coding in collaboration with surgeons, clinical staff, and the Operatory Director.

This position plays a critical role inoptimizingreimbursement, preventing charge leakage,maintainingcompliance, and ensuringaccuratedocumentation for all office-based surgical procedures.

The ideal candidate combines clinical knowledge with strong billing and codingexpertiseto ensure every procedure, supply, and implant is documented, coded, and billed accurately, supporting both compliance and financial performance.

Key Responsibilities

Surgical Coding & Charge Capture

  • Accuratelypost-surgicalcases usingappropriateCPT, HCPCS, and modifier coding.

  • Review operative documentation to ensure coding accuracy and completeness.

  • Partner directly with surgeons tovalidateprocedures performed and confirm surgical assistant billing requirements.

  • Identifyand resolve coding discrepancies or missing documentation prior to claim submission.

Supply & Implant Reconciliation

  • Reconcile cut sheets, purchase orders, bill-only documentation, and operative records.

  • Verify surgical supply and implantutilizationforaccuratecharge capture.

  • Collaborate with Supply Chain and clinical teams to ensure proper inventory and implant tracking.

  • Support implant andconsignmentbilling processes to maximize reimbursement.

Revenue Integrity & Compliance

  • Audit surgical cases toidentifyopportunities for improved reimbursement and charge capture.

  • Minimize revenue leakage throughaccuratedocumentation and coding practices.

  • Maintain compliance with coding, billing, and regulatory requirements.

  • Ensureaccurateandtimelydocumentation within the EHR and inventory management systems.

What Makes You a Great Fit

  • Experience working in a surgical environment, including an ASC, hospital operating room, or office-based operatory.

  • Strong understanding of surgical workflows, instrumentation, implants, and supplies.

  • Working knowledge of CPT/HCPCS coding principles and surgical documentation requirements.

  • Exceptional attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with surgeons, clinical staff, supply chain teams, and revenue cycle professionals.

  • Passion for improving documentation accuracy, reimbursement, and operational efficiency.

Required

  • Must havepreviousexperience in Orthopedics

  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC), CCS-P, CRC, or similar codingcredentials.

  • Working knowledge of CPT, HCPCS, and modifier coding.

  • Experience in a surgical environment (ASC, hospital OR, or office-based operatory).

  • Strong understanding of surgical workflows, supplies, implants, and instrumentation.

  • High levelof accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Experience working within an electronic health record (EHR) system.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, clinical teams, and administrative staff.

Preferred

  • Epic experience.

  • Experience with surgical charge capture, revenue integrity, or reimbursement optimization.

  • Experience with implant tracking, consignment inventory, and bill-only workflows.

Compensation Range for this position:
