Consignment Managers are professionals responsible for overseeing the process of selling goods on consignment, where items are sold on behalf of their owners and payment is made only when the goods are sold. They coordinate inventory intake, pricing, display, and sales, and often act as a liaison between consignors (owners) and buyers. Their duties may include evaluating item condition, negotiating consignor agreements, and managing records of sales and payouts. Consignment Managers typically work in retail stores, galleries, or online marketplaces that specialize in consigned goods.

How does a consignment manager typically collaborate with vendors and internal teams to ensure smooth consignment operations?

A Consignment Manager works closely with vendors to negotiate terms, monitor inventory levels, and coordinate the timely delivery and return of consigned goods. Internally, they liaise with sales, inventory control, and finance teams to track product movement, reconcile accounts, and ensure accurate reporting. Effective communication and relationship management are key, as the role often involves balancing vendor expectations with company objectives. Regular meetings and data-sharing sessions help to keep all stakeholders aligned and address any challenges proactively.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a consignment manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Consignment Manager, you need strong organizational skills, inventory management experience, and a background in retail or logistics, often supported by a relevant degree. Familiarity with inventory management software, point-of-sale (POS) systems, and basic accounting tools is typically required. Excellent negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills help you manage consignor partnerships and resolve issues efficiently. These capabilities are vital for maintaining accurate inventory, maximizing sales, and ensuring smooth consignment operations.

Lead the Inventory That Drives Our Business
Boater's World Marine Centers is seeking an experienced Inventory & Consignment Manager to oversee the acquisition, purchasing, consignment, and inventory management of both new and pre-owned boats across our growing dealership network.
Reporting directly to the Director of Inventory & Consignment, this position plays a key leadership role in sourcing inventory, supporting dealership consignment operations, managing dealer and manufacturer relationships, and executing the company's overall inventory acquisition strategy. You'll work closely with Sales, Service, Finance, and dealership leadership to ensure the right inventory is in the right place at the right time while maximizing inventory turn, profitability, and customer demand.
This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced inventory professional who enjoys building relationships, negotiating purchases, identifying market opportunities, and helping shape the inventory strategy of one of the fastest-growing marine dealership groups in the country.
While marine dealership experience is strongly preferred, we also encourage candidates with successful backgrounds in luxury automotive, exotic vehicles, RV, powersports, or other high-value dealership inventory operations to apply. If you've built a career around sourcing inventory, managing consignments, and driving dealership performance, we'd love to hear from you.
What You'll Do
Inventory Acquisition & Wholesale Purchasing
  • Source and acquire new and pre-owned boats through dealer networks, wholesale channels, private sellers, auctions, trade-ins, and strategic partnerships
  • Identify purchasing opportunities that align with dealership inventory needs and profitability goals
  • Evaluate market conditions, pricing trends, and inventory demand to make informed purchasing decisions
  • Negotiate purchase agreements while maintaining target gross profit objectives
  • Travel as needed to inspect inventory, meet with dealer partners, and attend auctions or industry events
Consignment Management
  • Support and oversee dealership consignment operations across multiple locations
  • Assist dealership teams with evaluating consignment opportunities, pricing strategies, and inventory positioning
  • Ensure consignment agreements, documentation, and customer communications are completed accurately and professionally
  • Partner with dealership leadership to improve and standardize consignment processes
  • Monitor consignment inventory from intake through final sale
Inventory Strategy & Performance
  • Partner with the Director of Inventory & Consignment to develop inventory acquisition strategies that support dealership growth
  • Monitor inventory aging, turn rates, gross profit, and inventory health across multiple dealership locations
  • Recommend pricing adjustments, dealer trades, wholesale dispositions, and inventory transfers based on market conditions
  • Maintain accurate inventory records and ensure timely movement of inventory throughout the dealership network
Dealer & Manufacturer Relations
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with marine dealerships, manufacturers, brokers, wholesalers, and industry partners
  • Coordinate new inventory ordering, manufacturer allocations, and dealer trades
  • Work closely with dealership leadership to identify inventory opportunities and purchasing priorities
  • Represent Boater's World Marine Centers at manufacturer meetings, auctions, and industry events
Operational Leadership
  • Partner with Sales, Service, Finance, and Operations teams to ensure inventory is properly prepared, merchandised, and available for sale
  • Ensure purchase documentation, titles, invoices, and inventory records are completed accurately
  • Support standardized inventory and consignment processes across all dealership locations
  • Assist with reporting, inventory analysis, forecasting, and continuous process improvement initiatives

Requirements
  • 3+ years of experience in inventory management, consignment management, wholesale purchasing, dealership buying, or inventory acquisition
  • Marine dealership experience strongly preferred
  • Candidates with luxury automotive, exotic vehicle, RV, or powersports inventory management experience are encouraged to apply
  • Strong understanding of inventory valuation, wholesale purchasing, dealership operations, inventory turn, and gross profit management
  • Experience managing or supporting consignment programs is highly preferred
  • Proven ability to negotiate purchases and build long-term dealer, manufacturer, and vendor relationships
  • Experience working with OEM manufacturers, dealer networks, auctions, and wholesale inventory channels
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience using dealership management systems (Lightspeed preferred), CRM platforms, and inventory software
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities
  • Willingness to travel as needed throughout the region and occasionally nationwide
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record

Why Join Boater's World Marine Centers?
  • Leadership opportunity with one of the fastest-growing marine dealership groups in the country
  • Report directly to the Director of Inventory & Consignment and help shape the company's inventory strategy
  • Competitive base salary with performance-based incentives
  • Comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and 401(k) with company match
  • Paid time off and employee discounts
  • Opportunity to work with premium marine brands while collaborating with industry-leading manufacturers and dealer partners
  • Long-term career growth within Boater's World Marine Centers and the Outdoor Network family
