Job description

Job Title: Chief Maintenance Engineer
Location: The Residence Inn Cary Crossroads
Department: Engineering / Maintenance
Position Summary:
The Chief Maintenance Engineer is responsible for overseeing all engineering and maintenance operations of the hotel to ensure a safe, functional, and aesthetically pleasing environment for guests and associates. This leadership role manages preventive maintenance programs, supervises the engineering team, ensures compliance with safety standards, and supports the hotel's luxury brand standards.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Direct, supervise, and train the Engineering Department staff.
  • Develop and execute preventive maintenance programs for all building systems, guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house spaces.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal safety regulations, including fire life safety, OSHA, and brand standards.
  • Maintain all HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, life safety, and energy management systems.
  • Respond promptly to guest and operational maintenance issues to minimize service disruptions.
  • Prepare and manage the engineering department budget, control expenses, and maintain inventory.
  • Coordinate with vendors, contractors, and inspectors for repairs, projects, and compliance audits.
  • Conduct regular inspections of the property to identify maintenance needs and safety concerns.
  • Support sustainability and energy conservation initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate records for maintenance, work orders, inspections, and compliance documentation.

Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 5 years of hotel engineering/maintenance experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, boilers, chillers, and life safety systems.
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and guest service skills.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA, fire safety, and local building codes.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certifications or vocational training preferred.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, kneel, and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in mechanical rooms, confined spaces, and outdoor conditions.
