What are Connectivity Consultants?

Connectivity Consultants are professionals who specialize in designing, implementing, and managing solutions that enable effective communication and data exchange between systems, devices, or organizations. They assess a company's networking needs, recommend appropriate technologies, and oversee the integration of hardware and software to ensure seamless connectivity. Their work often involves configuring networks, troubleshooting connectivity issues, and advising on best practices for secure and efficient data transfer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Connectivity Consultant, and why are they important?

A Connectivity Consultant typically needs a solid background in networking, telecommunications, and IT infrastructure, often supported by a degree in information technology or a related field. Familiarity with network management tools, cloud platforms, and certifications like Cisco CCNA or CompTIA Network+ are commonly required. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and effective client communication set top performers apart. These skills ensure reliable design and implementation of connectivity solutions that meet business needs and sustain network performance.

What are some typical challenges a Connectivity Consultant might face when integrating new technologies into existing client infrastructures?

Connectivity Consultants often encounter challenges such as ensuring compatibility between legacy systems and new technologies, managing tight project timelines, and coordinating with multiple stakeholders who may have differing priorities. They must also stay up to date with rapidly evolving connectivity standards and security protocols to deliver optimal solutions. Strong communication and problem-solving skills are essential for navigating these complexities and ensuring seamless technology integration for clients.

Job description

About the Role
The Product Manager - Connectivity & Voice is responsible for the strategy, lifecycle management, and commercial performance of Aureon's connectivity and voice services portfolio. This includes Dedicated Internet Access (DIA), Business Internet (BI), Ethernet services (EPL/EVPL), SIP trunking, and hosted voice and switching platforms.
This role operates at the intersection of technology and business, translating network capabilities into market-ready solutions that drive growth and deliver value to Aureon's cooperative partners and business customers. The Product Manager collaborates closely with network engineering, operations, sales, and leadership to define product direction, optimize pricing and packaging, and ensure successful go-to-market execution.
The ideal candidate brings a solid foundation in telecommunications or network-based services-gained through experience with a carrier, ISP, CLEC, or enterprise environment-and has the ability to evolve from a technical understanding into a more strategic, customer-focused product management role. This individual should be comfortable engaging both technical teams and executive stakeholders, bridging operational realities with business priorities.
Key Responsibilities
Product Ownership & Lifecycle Management
  • Own and drive the product roadmap for Aureon's connectivity and voice portfolio, including DIA, BI, Ethernet services (EPL/EVPL), SIP trunking, and hosted voice platforms
  • Define product requirements, service frameworks, and go-to-market positioning in partnership with engineering, operations, and sales stakeholders
  • Manage the full product lifecycle from concept through launch, optimization, and retirement of legacy services
  • Maintain clear, consistent product documentation, service definitions, and customer-facing materials to support internal alignment and external clarity

Pricing & Commercial Strategy
  • Develop and manage pricing strategies that balance market competitiveness with profitability, leveraging both cost-based and market-based approaches
  • Establish and maintain SKU structures across product lines, including service tiers, bandwidth options, contract terms, and value-added features
  • Conduct ongoing competitive analysis across regional and national providers to inform pricing, positioning, and packaging decisions
  • Partner with finance to evaluate margins, cost inputs, and capital considerations associated with infrastructure-based services

Sales Enablement & Support
  • Deliver impactful sales enablement resources, including product briefs, competitive positioning guides, and objection-handling frameworks
  • Train and support sales teams to effectively position connectivity and voice solutions within a consultative selling model
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for complex or strategic sales opportunities, ensuring alignment between customer needs and product capabilities
  • Define ideal customer profiles (ICPs) and support alignment of product strategy with target markets, verticals, and territories

Market Intelligence & Product Strategy
  • Monitor the competitive landscape across carriers, ISPs, and emerging infrastructure providers within Aureon's service footprint
  • Track industry trends across connectivity and voice technologies to guide product evolution and strategic direction
  • Gather and synthesize customer feedback, sales insights, and performance data into actionable product improvements
  • Represent Aureon's product strategy in industry engagements, partner discussions, and relevant associations

Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Collaborate with network engineering and operations to translate technical capabilities into scalable, market-ready solutions
  • Partner with service delivery and provisioning teams to ensure product designs are operationally viable and deliver consistent customer experience
  • Coordinate with legal and regulatory teams to ensure compliance with service agreements, carrier requirements, and industry standards
  • Engage with vendor and technology partners to support product integration, cost optimization, and joint go-to-market initiatives

Education, Experience & Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required; preference for a degree in Telecommunications, Network Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, Business, or a related field
  • 4-6 years of relevant experience in telecommunications, networking, or technology-based services, with exposure to connectivity (internet, transport) and/or voice platforms (e.g., SIP, hosted voice, UCaaS environments)
  • Demonstrated understanding of core networking and connectivity concepts, including internet access, Ethernet services, WAN technologies, and IP-based voice solutions
  • Experience working within or alongside a carrier, ISP, CLEC, technology provider, or enterprise IT/network organization
  • Proven ability to translate technical capabilities into customer-focused solutions, with an aptitude for balancing technical, operational, and commercial considerations
  • Exposure to product management, product development, or service lifecycle processes; experience owning or contributing to product roadmap initiatives is preferred
  • Strong analytical and business acumen, with experience supporting pricing, service packaging, or profitability analysis in a technology or services environment
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to engage both technical teams and business stakeholders; capable of simplifying complex concepts for diverse audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally across engineering, operations, sales, and finance teams to drive outcomes
  • Familiarity with industry trends and technologies such as SD-WAN, UCaaS, or managed connectivity services is preferred
  • Self-starter mindset with strong organizational skills and attention to detail; able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, evolving environment

Core Competencies & Skills
  • Product strategy development and roadmap ownership
  • Product lifecycle management (launch, optimization, retirement)
  • Telecommunications and networking domain knowledge (connectivity, internet, voice platforms)
  • Ability to translate technical concepts into customer-focused solutions
  • Pricing strategy, cost modeling, and margin management
  • Strong business and financial acumen
  • Market analysis and competitive intelligence
  • Customer-centric mindset with ability to incorporate feedback into product direction
