A conference manager, also known as an events manager, organizes and oversees all aspects of a conference to make sure it’s successful. In this role, your job duties include supervising the event planning staff, finding facilities that can be used as a venue, and confirming vendors for the conference center. You’re also responsible for preparing the facilities for guests, for example, by setting up directional signs or coordinating on-site parking services as needed. You may also negotiate vendor contracts and organize staff payroll. This career requires strong planning, organizational, and budget management skills. Qualifications typically include a bachelor’s degree and several years of experience in event planning or hospitality management.
| Aspect | Conference Manager | Event Coordinator |
|---|---|---|
| Primary Role | Oversees planning, execution, and management of conferences and large events | Coordinates various aspects of events, including logistics and vendor management |
| Credentials | Often requires experience in event planning, certifications like CMP (Certified Meeting Professional) | Typically requires experience in event coordination, certifications are optional |
| Work Environment | Corporate, conference centers, hotels, or event venues | Varies from corporate to social events, often more flexible locations |
| Scope | Focuses on large-scale, complex events like conferences and conventions | Handles a variety of events, including smaller meetings and social gatherings |
While both roles involve event planning, a Conference Manager specializes in large, complex conferences requiring strategic oversight, whereas an Event Coordinator manages a broader range of events with a focus on logistics and execution. The Conference Manager typically has more experience and credentials related to large-scale event management.

Job Description:
Located in the heart of Midtown Manhattan, Hard Rock Hotel New York delivers a dynamic blend of elevated hospitality and cultural energy. Our hotel is more than a destination-it is a stage where music, design, and service come together to create unforgettable moments.
At Hard Rock, our employees are Band Members, each bringing their individuality, passion, and expertise to the guest experience. Together, we create an environment that is vibrant, refined, and authentically Hard Rock.

This position focuses on generating new business, cultivating client relationships, managing booking pace, and securing repeat conference and group programs, all while maintaining exceptional service standards.
WHAT YOU WILL ROCK
In this role, you will drive conference and meeting sales by developing new business within corporate, association, and group markets through strategic prospecting, outreach, and site inspections, while managing the full sales cycle from initial inquiry through contract execution and seamless event handoff. You will maximize hotel revenue by identifying upselling opportunities across meeting packages, audiovisual services, and catering, and will work closely with internal departments to ensure all conference requirements-including room setups, breakout sessions, technology, and food and beverage-are executed flawlessly. As a key point of contact for clients, you will guide them through the planning process, attend BEO and resume meetings, and ensure clear, consistent communication across all teams. You will also welcome and engage with clients on-site, reviewing event flow and introducing operational leaders to deliver a polished and personalized experience, including availability outside of standard business hours when needed. In addition, you will prepare monthly 90-day forecasts, contribute to the annual budget and sales strategy, and stay informed on market trends and competitive activity to identify new opportunities. Partnering with culinary and banquet teams, you will help curate exceptional conference offerings, while managing client requests and concerns with professionalism and urgency to ensure satisfaction at every stage. Through every interaction, you will build strong relationships that drive repeat business and reinforce loyalty to the Hard Rock brand, all while maintaining a sharp focus on organization, attention to detail, and elevated service standards.
