General Description
To learn, develop and expand skills in administrative and/or professional work in an assigned area, assisting in varied administrative assignments such as research, analysis and report writing or routine technical and professional work at an intern level
Essential Job Functions
Essential functions are fundamental job duties. They do not include marginal tasks which are also performed but are incidental to the primary functions.   • Answer phone inquiries, direct calls, and provide basic department information.
  • Assist with mail deliveries, packages, and receipt of interoffice courier mail.
  • Perform general office support, copy, and scan, take notes, type documents, drafts, and reports.
  • Assist in preparing information and research materials, maintaining files, and organizing documents and materials.
  • Use computer software and databases, input information, data, and reports.
  • May assist with field work or site visits based on assignment.
  • Set up, break down, and maintain conference rooms, training rooms, and meeting rooms for special events and programs.
  • May assist with imaging systems, photography, videography, and update supervised social media and website content based on assignment.
  • Perform assigned duties specific to the operational needs of the operating department where the internship is performed.
  • May shadow multiple positions and train in a variety of tasks.
  • Interacts with the public in an effective and courteous manner.
  • Must demonstrate commitment to our mission, vision, values, and goals and represent the County in a professional, dignified manner at all times both in actions and appearance.
  • Must attend required training, safety programs and job-specific training as assigned; ensure compliance with safety procedures.

KNOWLEDGE OF: English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation; arithmetic and basic mathematical calculations.
ABILITY TO: On a continuous basis, sit at desk and/or stand at counter for long periods of time; know and understand the job and observe safety rules. Intermittently, sit while studying or preparing work papers, making computations, working at computer equipment; walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist while performing field work; perform simple and power grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation; and see and hear sufficiently to communicate by visual and auditory signals while working in the field; lift moderate to heavy weight depending upon the needs of the assignment. Learn a variety of administrative and professional tasks. Learn to prepare effective reports and make recommendations on assigned matters under study. Work with various cultural and ethnic groups in a tactful and effective manner. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Minimum & Preferred Qualifications
Full time enrollment in secondary school will be required for High School students with verification of enrollment letter OR, Enrollment in a minimum of three (3) semester hours OR, Verification of acceptance in an accredited college institution for employment as a college student OR, Enrollment towards a vocational certificate will be required to for employment as a Vo-Tech student. Must be at least 16 years of age.
**Preference will be given to degree-seeking students pursuing a degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS)**
LICENSURE AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS: Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid driver's license may be required.
Note: Employment in this class is temporary in nature and is designed to offer the student a practical learning experience. No full-time permanent appointments will be made in this class. Students may be permitted to have one semester break should there be a lack of required classes for desired major. A statement from educational institution will be required.
