Commercial Litigation Associate Attorney

Location: Salt Lake City, UT
Salary: $290,000–$350,000

Direct Counsel is seeking a Commercial Litigation Associate Attorney to join a leading national law firm'sCommercial Litigation practice in Salt Lake City. This opportunity is ideal for an associate with 4–6 years of business litigation experience handling sophisticated commercial matters in state and federal courts.

The successful candidate will have substantial experience managing discovery, drafting pleadings and motions, taking and defending depositions, preparing witnesses, appearing in court, and arguing motions. This role offers meaningful interaction with partners and clients within a sophisticated, collaborative litigation practice.

Responsibilities
  • Represent clients in complex commercial and business litigation matters in state and federal courts.
  • Conduct and manage written and document discovery.
  • Research and draft pleadings, motions, briefs, and other court filings.
  • Take and defend depositions.
  • Prepare witnesses for depositions, hearings, and trial testimony.
  • Appear at status conferences and other court proceedings.
  • Draft and argue motions in state and federal court.
  • Participate in settlement conferences and negotiations.
  • Assist with trial preparation and other pre-trial litigation activities.
  • Conduct legal research and contribute to litigation strategy.
  • Work directly with partners and clients on sophisticated litigation matters.
  • Manage multiple matters, deadlines, and litigation workstreams.
  • Collaborate with attorneys, clients, experts, and other members of the litigation team.
Qualifications
  • J.D. from an ABA-approved law school.
  • Strong academic credentials.
  • 4–6 years of business litigation experience.
  • Substantial experience handling complex commercial litigation matters in state and federal courts.
  • Experience conducting and managing written and document discovery.
  • Strong legal research and writing skills.
  • Experience drafting pleadings, motions, and other court filings.
  • Experience taking and defending depositions.
  • Experience preparing witnesses for testimony.
  • Experience appearing at status conferences and arguing motions.
  • Settlement conference and negotiation experience is preferred.
  • Trial preparation experience is preferred.
  • Persuasive oral advocacy and excellent communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational abilities.
  • Exceptional work ethic and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a sophisticated, fast-paced environment.
  • Comfortable interacting directly with partners and clients.
  • Active Utah Bar membership and good standing required. Timely admission to the Utah Bar will be a condition of employment.
