Job description

POSITION SUMMARY
The Conduit Foreman is a working lead position responsible for directing and participating in the installation of underground electrical and telecommunications conduit systems on active project sites. The Conduit Foreman leads a crew of Conduit Laborers, coordinates daily work activities with the Site Superintendent, ensures installations comply with project plans and specifications, and upholds Company safety and quality standards. This is a hands-on role that requires both technical proficiency in conduit installation and the ability to direct and develop crew members in the field.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following duties are representative of the position and are not exhaustive. The Company may modify responsibilities to meet business needs.
Crew Leadership amp; Daily Direction
  • Lead a crew of 2-8 Conduit Laborers, assigning daily tasks, setting priorities, and directing work activities to meet project schedule and production targets.
  • Serve as the primary field-level leader for conduit installation operations, working alongside the crew as needed to demonstrate techniques and maintain production.
  • Monitor crew attendance, performance, and conduct; address performance and behavioral issues promptly and report to the Site Superintendent.
  • Train and develop Conduit Laborers in proper installation techniques, safety procedures, and Company work standards.
Installation amp; Layout
  • Read and interpret project plans, drawings, and specifications to determine conduit routes, depth requirements, grades, and installation methods.
  • Lay out conduit runs in the field, mark routes, and direct excavation and installation activities to achieve specified alignment, grade, and depth.
  • Oversee the installation of PVC Schedule 40/80, HDPE, and galvanized rigid conduit systems in accordance with project specifications and applicable code requirements.
  • Direct the installation of pull boxes, manholes, handholes, and conduit terminations per project drawings.
  • Coordinate conduit scope with the Site Superintendent, Project Manager, and other crew foremen to ensure efficient sequencing and site coordination.
Safety
  • Enforce all Company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and project-specific safety requirements within the conduit crew at all times.
  • Conduct or participate in daily toolbox talks and job hazard analyses (JHAs) before work commences.
  • Ensure proper trench shoring and excavation safety procedures are followed for all conduit trench operations.
  • Immediately identify and correct unsafe conditions; stop work and notify the Site Superintendent when safety hazards cannot be promptly corrected.
  • Maintain required OSHA certifications and ensure crew members comply with applicable safety training requirements.
Quality Control amp; Documentation
  • Verify that all conduit installations meet contract plans, specifications, and Company quality standards before backfill or cover.
  • Coordinate utility locate services and verify utility clearances before directing any excavation in the conduit corridor.
  • Assist in the preparation of daily field reports, material logs, and quantity tracking data for the conduit scope.
Equipment amp; Materials
  • Direct the responsible use and basic daily care of equipment and tools assigned to the conduit crew.
  • Coordinate with the Site Superintendent to ensure adequate material quantities are on hand to support daily production.
  • Report equipment deficiencies and material shortages to the Site Superintendent promptly.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education amp; Experience
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of field experience in underground conduit installation, underground utilities, or heavy civil construction required.
  • Prior experience in a crew lead or foreman role preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in reading construction plans and installing conduit systems to specification.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
Certifications amp; Technical Skills
  • OSHA 10 certification required; OSHA 30 preferred.
  • Competent Person designation for excavation and trenching required or must be obtainable within introductory period.
  • Working knowledge of PVC, HDPE, and rigid conduit installation methods and applicable code standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret civil and electrical construction drawings.
  • Valid Texas driver's license and clean driving record required.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Must be able to stand, walk, kneel, dig, lift, and work on uneven terrain for extended periods.
  • May be required to work extended hours or weekends to meet project schedule requirements.
