Computer Vision Engineer Intern information

What does a Computer Vision Engineer Intern do?

A Computer Vision Engineer Intern assists in developing and implementing algorithms that enable computers to process and interpret visual information from the world, such as images or videos. They often work on projects involving object detection, image segmentation, and other tasks related to image analysis and machine learning. Interns usually collaborate with experienced engineers, contribute to codebases, and help test and optimize models for various applications. Their work supports industries like robotics, healthcare, automotive, and more.

What types of projects and tasks can a Computer Vision Engineer Intern typically expect to work on during their internship?

As a Computer Vision Engineer Intern, you can expect to be involved in a variety of hands-on projects such as developing image recognition algorithms, annotating datasets, and testing computer vision models for accuracy and performance. Interns often collaborate closely with senior engineers and data scientists, contributing to tasks like data preprocessing, model training, and performance benchmarking. This role offers a great opportunity to gain practical experience with popular frameworks such as OpenCV and TensorFlow, and to develop skills in both research and applied development within interdisciplinary teams.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Computer Vision Engineer Intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Computer Vision Engineer Intern, you need a solid background in computer science, mathematics, and image processing, typically supported by coursework or experience in machine learning and programming (Python, C++). The Opportunity

Build the Future with Us
Step into the world of power systems and help shape the infrastructure that keeps communities connected. You'll gain hands-on exposure to how electrical engineering decisions translate into safe, reliable, and sustainable energy solutions.

Your Impact

  • Support substation engineering deliverables by assisting with calculations, technical notes, and design documentation.
  • Prepare and update drawings, single-line diagrams, and design markups in collaboration with designers and engineers.
  • Assist with power system studies and analyses (e.g., load flow, short circuit, equipment sizing) under supervision.
  • Compile and organize project information (specifications, standards, vendor data, and field notes) to help keep designs accurate and current.
  • Participate in internal coordination and project meetings, capturing key actions and supporting follow-through.
  • Contribute to quality checks by reviewing documents for completeness, consistency, and alignment with project requirements.
  • Learn and apply safe work practices and support project teams during occasional site visits when required.

The Skills That Set You Apart

  • Currently enrolled in a university Electrical Engineering program (co-op/internship term available for Fall 2026).
  • Foundational understanding of power systems concepts (e.g., three-phase systems, transformers, protection basics, equipment ratings).
  • Experience or coursework exposure to technical documentation such as single-line diagrams, schematics, or drawing sets.
  • Working knowledge of common engineering tools (e.g., Excel) and comfort learning new software quickly (CAD or power system tools are an asset).
  • Ability to communicate clearly and collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams (engineering, drafting/design, project management).
  • Strong attention to detail with an organized approach to managing multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Willingness to follow safety procedures and participate in field/site work when needed (as applicable to project requirements).
