Job description

Electrical Systems Engineer
Design the Technology That Powers the Future of Rail
Every train is a collection of complex systems working together seamlessly. As an Electrical Systems Engineer at Stadler, you'll help make that happen.
This isn't a role where your work disappears into a drawing package or gets buried in endless meetings. You'll help design, integrate, test, and validate the electrical systems that bring modern passenger trains to life-from power distribution and vehicle controls to HVAC, lighting, passenger information systems, and onboard technology.
You'll work alongside experienced engineers, collaborate with global teams, and see your designs move from concept to reality on vehicles that will serve communities across North America for decades.
Whether your background is in rail, aerospace, defense, automotive, industrial automation, energy, or another complex technical industry, this is an opportunity to apply your engineering skills to something tangible, visible, and impactful.
Why This Role Is Exciting
  • Work on large-scale transportation projects that move millions of people.
  • Design systems that directly impact vehicle performance, reliability, safety, and passenger experience.
  • Collaborate with international engineering teams and industry-leading suppliers.
  • Get hands-on involvement in testing, troubleshooting, and vehicle validation.
  • See your work move beyond the computer screen and onto real vehicles.
  • Build expertise across electrical architecture, controls, power systems, integration, and system engineering.

What You'll Be Doing
You'll help bring together the electrical systems that make a train function as a complete vehicle. Your work may include:
  • Integrating systems such as HVAC, lighting, fire protection, entry systems, and passenger technologies.
  • Designing and supporting vehicle power distribution, battery systems, converters, and onboard electrical architecture.
  • Supporting train control, safety, monitoring, and communication systems.
  • Defining system requirements, interfaces, and technical specifications.
  • Creating engineering documentation, schematics, test plans, and verification records.
  • Supporting vehicle testing, troubleshooting, and system validation activities.
  • Collaborating with suppliers, customers, production teams, and engineering colleagues around the world.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve designs, performance, and reliability throughout the project lifecycle.

What We're Looking For
We're looking for engineers who enjoy solving complex technical challenges, learning new systems, and working in a highly collaborative environment.
Qualifications include:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, or a related field.
  • 0-2 years of experience for entry-level candidates or 3-5 years of experience for mid-level candidates.
  • Experience in rail, aerospace, defense, automotive, industrial controls, energy, manufacturing, or other complex technical industries is highly valued.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a systems-thinking mindset.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Fluent in English, both written and verbal. German language skills are a plus.
  • Comfortable writing technical documentation, specifications, and engineering reports in English.
  • Experience with electrical design and engineering tools such as E3, SmarTeam, PLM, ECN, or similar systems is preferred.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for training, supplier collaboration, and vehicle testing activities.

Why Join Stadler?
At Stadler, you'll join a global leader in rail vehicle manufacturing and signaling technology while working from our growing North American operations. Our benefits include:
  • Competitive compensation with profit-sharing potential
  • Low-cost medical, dental, vision, and prescription coverage
