Job Summary
The Aegis Combat System is an advanced, integrated command, control, weapons, and radar suite deployed globally to counter airborne and surface threats. This position represents GD OTS technical support at PTC, shipyards, and AEGIS Ashore sites, performing integration, installation, testing, troubleshooting, repair, and operation of FCS components including the MK 82 and MK 200. Based in Saco, ME, it requires frequent domestic and occasional international travel.

Essential Functions
  • Responsible for the overall systems infrastructure including engineering, implementation and integration, and technical services and support.
  • Designs, implements, installs, maintains, and administers infrastructures including hardware, software, and various configurations.
  • Monitors overall performance to proactively identify potential issues and tune appropriately.
  • Performs root cause analysis on failed components and implements corrective measures.
  • Works with others to establish and improve processes and procedures.
  • May have sole responsibility for projects and participate in disaster recovery exercises.
    • Additional Responsibilities
      Support Aegis program needs in Saco, Maine and shipside as GD's customer support rep and lead technician for the Aegis Fire Control System. Provide field engineering for integration, installation, troubleshooting, repair, maintenance, and operation of FCS on ships and shore sites. Gather user feedback to support product improvements.
      Required Qualifications
      • Required education and experience: Associate's Degree and 8-10 years' experience
      • Discipline/Major: Engineering degree required
      • Critical professional related technical skills; computer skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

      Preferred Qualifications
      • Preferred education and experience:
        • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electromechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related technical discipline is preferred.
        • Equivalent experience, such as a U.S. Navy FCS rating, may be considered in lieu of a degree.
        • field engineering /technical support experience.
      • Knowledge, skills & abilities: Technical Expertise. Analytical Thinking Skills. Problem-Solving Skills.
      • Other Requirements:
        • Availability for domestic and international travel to support production lines, contractor sites, and end-user environments.
        • Willingness to adapt to variable working environments, including contractor sites, customer facilities, and ship-based installations.
        • Able to obtain a U.S. DoD Security Clearance.
      • Preferred Qualifications:
        • Experience supporting ship-based combat systems, including naval weapons, Fire Control Systems, or other integrated defense systems.
        • Familiarity with Aegis Combat System architecture and components such as the MK-82 Director, MK-200 Controller, MK-15 Data Converter and MK-99 FCS.

        Prior experience working directly with military customers and contractors in a technical support or engineering capacity.

      Physical Requirements
      • Must be able to remain in a stationary position at a desk and/or computer for extended periods of time.
      • Requires regular movement throughout GD-OTS facilities.
      • Work primarily in a climate-controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential.
      • Work may require employee to work inside and outside with exposure to changing climate and/or operate machinery.

      Travel Requirements
      More than 50% travel likely.
