Job Summary
The System Administrator is responsible for managing, maintaining, monitoring, and improving the organization's enterprise storage and backup environments. This role ensures the availability, performance, integrity, retention, and recoverability of business and customer data across SAN, NAS, backup, replication, and disaster recovery platforms.
The System Administrator works closely with the Director of Production IT, Production IT Technical Lead, infrastructure, network, security, application, database, and vendor teams to support production workloads, data protection requirements, recovery objectives, capacity planning, and operational reliability.
This position is expected to provide hands-on administration of storage and backup platforms, troubleshoot performance and availability issues, validate recovery procedures, maintain documentation, support audits and compliance requirements, and assist with lifecycle planning for storage and data protection technologies
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Manage and maintain enterprise storage solutions including SAN, NAS, and related storage platforms.
• Monitor storage health, availability, performance, utilization, and capacity.
• Provision, expand, modify, and decommission storage resources according to operational standards and business requirements.
• Troubleshoot storage performance issues, connectivity problems, capacity constraints, replication issues, and data availability concerns.
• Maintain storage configurations, access controls, snapshots, replication, and data protection settings.
• Assist with storage lifecycle planning, upgrades, migrations, replacements, and optimization efforts.
• Ensure storage platforms are configured and maintained according to best practices for reliability, performance, scalability, and data integrity.
• Manage and maintain enterprise backup platforms, backup jobs, schedules, policies, retention settings, and recovery workflows.
• Monitor backup job success, failure trends, performance, capacity, and system health.
• Troubleshoot backup failures, missed jobs, replication issues, retention problems, and recovery errors.
• Perform regular backup validation and recovery testing to confirm data recoverability.
• Support file-level, system-level, application-level, and disaster recovery restoration efforts.
• Maintain backup and recovery procedures for critical systems, applications, and data.
• Ensure backup and recovery practices align with business requirements, retention policies, compliance expectations, and operational standards.
• Support disaster recovery planning, testing, documentation, and execution.
• Assist with defining and validating recovery objectives, recovery processes, and restoration procedures.
• Coordinate with infrastructure, network, security, application, and database teams during recovery events and disaster recovery exercises.
• Support replication, snapshot, immutable backup, archival, and other data protection technologies.
• Identify risks related to backup coverage, recoverability, retention, capacity, and platform resiliency.
• Recommend improvements to strengthen data protection and disaster recovery readiness.
• Monitor and analyze storage and backup capacity utilization, growth trends, and performance.
• Identify capacity risks, performance bottlenecks, and operational constraints.
• Recommend storage expansions, backup repository growth, platform upgrades, and lifecycle replacements.
• Optimize storage allocation, backup performance, retention usage, and resource consumption.
• Provide capacity and performance reporting to management and technical stakeholders as needed.
• Serve as the primary technical owner for storage and backup incidents.
• Provide escalation support for storage availability, data access, backup failure, and recovery-related issues.
• Participate in root cause analysis, remediation planning, post-incident reviews, and long-term corrective actions.
• Participate in an on-call rotation and provide support for critical storage, backup, and recovery incidents as needed.
• Coordinate with vendors for support cases, hardware replacements, software upgrades, and platform issues.
• Maintain accurate documentation of storage systems, backup platforms, retention policies, recovery procedures, diagrams, and operational standards.
• Support change management by documenting implementation plans, risks, validation steps, and rollback procedures.

Minimum Qualifications, Education and Experience
• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Systems Administration, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• 1-2 years of experience in storage administration, backup administration, systems administration, infrastructure operations, or a similar technical role.
• Experience managing enterprise storage platforms including SAN, NAS, or similar technologies.
• Experience managing backup and recovery platforms, policies, schedules, retention, and restoration procedures.
• Strong understanding of storage concepts including volumes, LUNs, shares, snapshots, replication, performance, capacity, and data integrity.
• Strong understanding of backup and recovery concepts including full, incremental, differential, synthetic, immutable, archival, retention, and disaster recovery workflows.
• Familiarity with virtualization platforms such as VMware, Hyper-V, KVM, or similar technologies.
• Familiarity with Linux and Windows server environments.
• Familiarity with networking concepts related to storage and backup, including TCP/IP, DNS, routing, VLANs, iSCSI, NFS, SMB, and Fibre Channel where applicable.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to create and maintain accurate documentation, procedures, and recovery guides.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Ability to participate in an on-call rotation and support critical incidents as needed.
• Experience with platforms such as Rubrik, Commvault, Veeam, NetBackup, Dell, Pure, Nimble, Qumulo, NetApp, HPE, or similar technologies is a plus.
• Relevant certifications in storage, backup, virtualization, Linux, Windows, or data protection technologies are a plus.

Travel
This position may require domestic / international travel up to 25%.
The position requires the ability drive a vehicle, and utilize other forms of transportation.
Working Environment
The position is primarily remote, with an onsite response requirement for the Greenville, South Carolina data center. The employee must be able to report to the Greenville data center within one hour when required for production support, incident response, maintenance activities, hardware support, or other business needs. Additional travel to offices, conferences, workshops, customer locations, or other business locations may be required. This position may require domestic / international travel up to 25%.
