Job description

Position Overview:
TPG is actively seeking skilled Software Technicians who possess a CDL-A who are looking to join our team based out of the Portland Oregon area. Join our team supporting a leading global company dedicated to building state-of-the-art commercial vehicles. Successful candidates will support the research and development efforts to create the next generation of commercial transport solutions, driving innovation in the automotive and truck industry.
Job Summary:
This role combines hands-on vehicle diagnostics with cutting-edge software tools to support testing, troubleshooting, and parameter modifications for vehicles. Ideal candidates may come from diverse technical backgrounds, including dealership diagnostics or the semiconductor industry, and do not necessarily require prior automotive experience.
The Software Technician supports the R&D departments in the day-to-day operations and ensures that testing is not interrupted due to equipment failure or delays.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Utilize diagnostic software and tools (e.g., Vector tools, CAN analyzer, G-Rot, Diagnostic Link, proprietary flash tools) to troubleshoot and analyze vehicle systems.
  • Connect diagnostic equipment to vehicles, identify issues, and perform initial troubleshooting to isolate faults.
  • Escalate complex issues to engineering teams by gathering and presenting relevant diagnostic data.
  • Conduct software flashing and parameter modifications to assess vehicle functionality.
  • Monitor and analyze CAN network signals to verify system integrity and operation.
  • Drive vehicles on test tracks to validate repairs and ensure functionality of modified systems.
  • Collaborate with engineers to interpret test results and refine software applications.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of diagnostic processes, issues, and resolutions.

Required Qualifications:
  • Valid CDL-A with at least 1 year of driving experience.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting and diagnostics, ideally with dealership or industrial tools.
  • Familiarity with software applications such as Vector tools, CAN analyzer, or equivalent diagnostic software.
  • Strong computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to read and analyze vehicle signals to identify system faults.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Willingness to learn proprietary tools and adapt to new diagnostic technologies.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with automotive, commercial vehicles, or related diagnostics.
  • Background in the semiconductor or technical industry, with exposure to diagnostics or troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of flash tools and vehicle software systems.

Additional Requirements:
  • Safety Sensitive position requiring all persons assigned to activity be drug-free and successfully pass drug screening prior to employment.
  • Requirement to lift at least 50 lbs.
  • Must provide own tools for their use on the job at main facility; company will have access to specialty equipment and will provide tools to travel locations.
  • Must be willing and able to travel via airplane and other modes of transportation, as required by project needs.
