Job Description

As part of the MPT (Madison Peptide Therapeutics) Informatics team at AbbVie, you will support a proprietary peptide array platform and scientists using the platform by contributing to software innovation and tool development for scientific research.  The ideal candidate will have a multidisciplinary background that can apply cheminformatics and web development skills to build and support digital tools that empower our scientists and accelerate drug discovery.  You will work closely with colleagues in informatics, chemistry, and operations to design, implement, and deploy solutions to support research efforts. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Develop web-based applications and command-line tools to support cheminformatics and data management workflows for scientific teams 
  • Write maintainable, efficient code (primarily python) and support deployment through Linux systems 
  • Collaborate with scientists to understand requirements and build custom informatics solutions 
  • Apply cheminformatics techniques for data analysis, visualization, and modeling 
  • Integrate web frameworks, database, and front-end interfaces as needed 
  • Document code, participate in code reviews, and support best practices in software engineering 
  • Deploy software tools with user documentation and provide training or support to scientists to ensure effective adoption and use 
Qualifications

Required 

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent education) in Computer Science, Chemistry, or a related field with typically 5 years of relevant experience; or a Master's degree (or equivalent education) in Computer Science, Chemistry, or a related field with typically 2 years of relevant experience. Cross-training in Chemistry (for Computer Science majors) or in Computer Science (for Chemistry majors), or an equivalent combination. 
  • Strong proficiency in python programming 
  • Hands-on experience in cheminformatics (e.g. RDKit) and applying it to scientific data 
  • Strong command-line Linux skills 
  • Experience developing web applications 

Preferred 

  • Familiarity with software version control such as git 
  • Experience developing in Flask, FastAPI, Django, and/or Streamlit 
  • Front-end development experience (React, JavaScript) 
  • Experience with python data frameworks such as Polars, pandas, and Matplotlib  
  • Experience with Rust and/or R
