Job Title Science Teacher

Department Goodwill Excel Center (GEC)

Team Leader Lead Teacher

Status Exempt


Mission Contribution:


To fulfill the mission of advancing students to obtain a high school diploma.


Function:


The Science Teacher will facilitate learning for students attending The Excel Center, meeting students โ€œwhere they areโ€. He/she employs a student-centered approach effectively tailoring the service delivery strategies to the individual studentsโ€™ needs approaching education with creativity and innovation. Strategies include differentiated instruction, individualized instruction, case stories, seminars, self-paced lessons, and computer-based learning. The Science Teacher will utilize appropriate training methods, motivational techniques, and related work adjustment tools.


Essential Responsibilities:


ยง Creates an educational environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and needs of the students; prepares instructional materials for classes assigned and provides written evidence of preparation to Lead Teacher upon request.

ยง Establishes a standard of classroom behavior; maintains classroom management in and outside of the school.

ยง Assess the accomplishments of students on an established timetable, and provides written and oral progress reports to students and administrators and other selected staff; administers tests and assessments.

ยง Plans curriculum and prepares lessons and other instructional materials to meet individual needs of students within state and school requirements based on the educational, physical, and emotional levels of student development.

ยง Confers with lead teacher, administrators, and appropriate resource staff to develop educational programs for students.

ยง Creates learning materials geared to students' abilities and interests.

ยง Motivates students and provides consistent reinforcement of learning skills, and provides continuous assessment and feedback to students for all learning activities.

ยง Maintains accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, and district and administrative regulations.

ยง Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.




Qualifications:

ยง Requires a Bachelor's degree and endorsement in the grade/subject taught with a valid Tennessee certificate. Must be highly qualified. Governed by the Rules and Regulations of the Tennessee Code Annotated and the collective bargaining agreement. Must be physically and mentally able to perform the responsibilities and duties of the position.

Physical Requirements and Working Environment

ยง Physical Demands: Requires sedentary work involving standing or walking for brief periods, exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular basis; and some dexterity in operating office equipment; must be able to use hands and fingers for sign language.

ยง Unavoidable Hazards: The position is exposed to no unusual environmental hazards.

ยง Sensory (ADA) Requirements: The position requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing and speaking abilities.
