Job description

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

Selected interns will complete a 3 to 6 month assignment supporting the Industrial Engineering (IE) team.

In the assigned position, selected interns receive day to day direction from the functional manager and senior Engineers while receiving ongoing mentoring from functional partners and the Engineering Services Leader. In addition to gaining hands on experience in the assigned function, selected interns assume project management responsibility for improvement opportunities in the assigned area. Examples of projects include:

Essential Job Functions:
  • Designing layouts for new processes and equipment to accommodate new product development implementation to the production lines.
  • Value stream mapping using lean manufacturing techniques for waste reduction and flow for production and materials and system processes.
  • Developing Process Documentation including Process Flow, Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA), Control Plans and Operator Work Instructions to support new product launch and process improvement initiatives.
  • Reducing process quality and safety risk with error proofing and detective controls.
  • Assisting with Manufacturing Assessment and Validation Builds and coordinating FRACAS (Failure Reporting and Corrective Actions System) activities.
  • Project Management on process improvement initiatives.
  • Under the direction of the IE Manager, selected interns will also examine existing IE functional processes to identify and recommend additional improvements.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

Education/Experience:

  • Sophomore or above pursuing Manufacturing, Industrial or Mechanical Engineering curriculum.
  • Overall 2.8 GPA or above
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Work requires periodic stooping/bending and frequent walking/standing throughout day.
  • Requires occasional lifting of objects less than 25 pounds as well as occasional lifting of objects 25 to 50 pounds.
  • Work involves activities that require special safety precautions, e.g., working around moving parts, machines, or vehicles.
  • Requires use of protective clothing.
