Job description

Primary Purpose

Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the field of computer science designed to help them fulfill their intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills in coding, programming, computational thinking, cybersecurity, digital literacy, and technology applications that prepare them for college, careers, and future opportunities.

Qualifications

Education/Certification

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with appropriate certification for assigned teaching area
  • Computer Science certification preferred

Special Knowledge/Skills

  • Knowledge of computer science curriculum and instructional strategies
  • Ability to teach coding, programming, and technology concepts
  • Knowledge of programming languages such as Python, Java, JavaScript, HTML/CSS, or similar platforms
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity, networking, robotics, and/or data science concepts preferred
  • Strong classroom management and communication skills
  • Ability to integrate technology into instruction
  • Ability to analyze student performance data and adjust instruction accordingly

Experience

  • Experience teaching secondary students preferred
  • Experience in computer science, information technology, or related field preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Instructional Strategies

  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill district curriculum requirements and reflect accommodations for individual student needs
  • Teach computer science concepts including programming, coding, computational thinking, digital citizenship, and technology applications
  • Prepare students for industry certifications, college readiness, and career pathways when applicable
  • Use a variety of instructional techniques, technology tools, and project-based learning activities
  • Encourage problem-solving, creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking skills
  • Assess student progress regularly and provide timely feedback

Classroom Management and Organization

  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for student development
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with district policies and campus expectations
  • Maintain technology equipment, software, and instructional materials
  • Ensure proper and safe use of technology resources

Communication

  • Establish and maintain open communication with students, parents, administrators, and colleagues
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and district training
  • Collaborate with campus staff to support student achievement and instructional goals

Professional Growth and Development

  • Stay current with emerging technologies, computer science trends, and instructional practices
  • Participate in ongoing professional learning opportunities related to computer science and technology integration

Other

  • Maintain accurate records and documentation as required by district and state guidelines
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the campus principal or designee

Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervise assigned teacher aide(s), student teachers, and classroom volunteers as applicable.

*Please note that this role requires in-person attendance and is not eligible for remote work.
