Summary:
The primary role of the Quality Engineer is to provide technical support for the fabrics manufacturing operation located in Appleton. WI. In addition, this position will be the primary resource for internal process and quality management.
Responsibilities:
  • Provide daily quality and technical assistance, investigation and decision making to the manufacturing operation.
  • Work closely with Design & Applications team on internal quality decisions.
  • Manage supplier certificate of analysis and performance communication, documentation, and corrective action (SCAR log).
  • Lead operational excellence (OPEX) projects on process optimization, cost reduction and material changes.
  • Support the implementation and consolidation of packaging specifications required by customers.
  • Required to attend the daily manufacturing meeting where follow-up actions are identified to maintain flow through the plant and meet customer orders.
  • Actively participate in behavioral-based safety programs and employee engagement.
  • Support the archiving and evaluation of manufacturing data systems.
  • Member of the Integrated Management System (IMS) team.
  • Manage scrap non-conformance investigation forms (SNIF's) log.
  • This position is part of a 24-hour quality text line to provide infrequent, but necessary, guidance to the press fabric operation supervisors after hours and on weekends.

Required Skills/Abilities
  • Ability to apply engineering and scientific principles to resolve problems and make improvements.
  • Capable of working in a flexible, often shifting manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to interact effectively with customers, management team and production personnel.
  • Business knowledge of cost/benefit analysis, project management and planning.
  • Comfortable working in manufacturing environment and around equipment.
  • Ability to facilitate and drive the resolution of complex problems using data.
  • Willingness to travel locally, nationally or globally when needed.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at the same time with various timelines.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to write and orally present technical information.
  • Must be detail oriented and have strong organizational skills.
  • Intermediate-level knowledge of Microsoft software packages.
  • Exposure to Six Sigma training and Minitab preferred.
  • Basic understanding of lean principles and design of experiment.

Education and Experience:
  • Minimum requirements include a Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering/science curriculum.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in an engineering or science field. Individuals with less experience may be considered.

Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift/carry up to 25 pounds at times.
