Description

Looking for an opportunity to make an impact on the defense of the nation?

At Leidos, we deliver innovative solutions through the efforts of our diverse and talented people who are dedicated to our customers’ success. We empower our teams, contribute to our communities, and operate sustainably. Everything we do is built on a commitment to do the right thing for our customers, our people, and our community. Our Mission, Vision, and Values guide the way we do business every day.

Leidos' Defense Sensor Research and Analysis Division is seeking a talented, self-motivated Senior Software Engineer with strong expertise in Java and C++, modern containerized development environments, and the ability to support U.S. government defense programs requiring eligibility for a Secret security clearance.

As part of our team at Redstone Arsenal, you will contribute to the development of mission critical software supporting the Missile Defense Agency (MDA). Our organization develops advanced software products used for missile defense test planning, training, and operational analysis while providing engineering and testing support for complex radar systems. Leidos maintains offices across the United States, delivering innovative engineering, scientific, cybersecurity, and IT solutions for defense, space, and commercial customers.

Your greatest work is ahead

In this role, you will help develop and enhance a fielded software product used to evaluate radar placement, assess system performance, and support relocation planning for deployed missile defense radar systems. You will collaborate closely with experienced software engineers, radar specialists, and systems analysts to deliver high quality capabilities that directly support national security missions.

The ideal candidate is a proactive problem solver who thrives in a collaborative technical environment, communicates effectively across multidisciplinary teams, and enjoys mentoring junior engineers while contributing as a senior technical leader.

If this sounds like the kind of environment where you can thrive, keep reading!

Primary Responsibilities

In this role you will serve as the lead developer for a new radar model and its integration into an existing radar planner framework. This role will require close collaboration with radar engineers to determine the functional requirements of the new radar model. In this role you will operate according to DoD DevSecOps best practices to ensure all code meets rigorous cyber security requirements.

Because customer priorities and operational requirements evolve quickly, you must be comfortable responding to changing requirements and delivering high quality solutions in a fast-paced environment.

You will work closely with an established team of software developers while collaborating daily with systems engineers, radar engineers, government personnel, and industry partners. Success in this role requires strong technical leadership, effective communication, and the ability to work across multidisciplinary teams to solve complex engineering challenges.

This position is performed entirely on site at government facilities in Huntsville, Alabama, where you will work as part of a multi-contractor team. As a representative of Leidos, you will be expected to demonstrate technical excellence, professionalism, integrity, and a strong commitment to supporting the customer and mission.

 Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related STEM field with 8 to 12 years of software development experience, or a Master's degree in a related STEM field with 6 to 10 years of relevant experience.

  • Strong proficiency in Java and C++ development.

  • Experience with Docker or Kubernetes, along with a solid understanding of containerization concepts.

  • Must currently reside in the North Alabama/Huntsville area or be willing to relocate.

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Significant experience using GitLab, including repository management, branching strategies, and Continuous Integration (CI) pipeline development and maintenance.

  • Experience developing radar simulation and visualization software.

  • Experience developing 3D visualization graphical user interfaces (GUIs) using Java.
