Position Summary:

The Manufacturing Engineer will report to the Manufacturing Engineering Supervisor and will be responsible for developing, implementing, and improving manufacturing processes, equipment, and automation systems to support safety, quality, productivity, and cost objectives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This role supports new product launches, process validation, continuous improvement initiatives, capital projects, and Industry 4.0 technologies while collaborating with cross-functional teams to optimize metal stamping, heat treat, and vision inspection processes. The Manufacturing Engineer also provides technical support for automation, equipment reliability, process capability, and operational efficiency to ensure customer and business requirements are achieved.

Responsibilities:

  • Develops drawings and other engineering documentation to improve manufacturing processes and product quality for fasteners.
  • Analyzes specifications and drawings to ensure that products are manufactured to the customer’s requirements, and reviews statistical process control data to recommend appropriate actions.
  • Works with product engineering in the design phase of new products and redesign of existing products to ensure product manufacturability & poka-yoke at stamping process.
  • Drafts and designs layout of equipment, material, and workspace to illustrate maximum efficiency using drafting tools and computers.
  •  Validate manufacturing processes through capability studies (Cp/Cpk) and process qualifications.
  • Support launch activities for new programs including equipment trials, run-offs, and process validation.
  • Develop KPI dashboards and analyze manufacturing data to drive operational decisions.
  • Identify and act on continuous improvement initiatives with emphasis on metal stamping, Heat Treat and vision inspection process improvements.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements to enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and increase productivity.
  • Design and implementation of sensor processing algorithms for signal processing, sensor control, feature detection and matching, motion estimation.
  • Support servo press optimization and die protection systems.
  • Provides technical support for cost-saving projects.
  • Manage multiple cross functional projects using solid project management standards, coupled with a sense of urgency for our customers and our employees.
  • Creation and execution of capital expenditure projects of varying sizes.
  • Develop and optimize preventive and predictive maintenance strategies with maintenance teams.
  • Support automation projects including PLC integration, robotics, vision systems, and data acquisition systems.
  • Investigate and recommend alternative equipment and manufacturers for benchmarking.
  • Support MES/Industry 4.0 initiatives including machine connectivity and production monitoring systems.
  • Coordinate equipment FAT/SAT activities and machine acceptance validation.
  • Develop standardized work instruction, setup procedures and support documentation.
  • Implement traceability systems and manufacturing data collection methods.
  • Comply with all environmentally safe practices and regulations.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical/industrial engineering or related field
  • Previous 2-5 years of automotive manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Previous experience working with CAD.
  • Excellent analytical skills and proficiency with computers.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to persuade others to change existing practices.
  • Strong attention to detail & ability to manage projects.
  • Familiarity with Six Sigma, and Lean Manufacturing Principles.
  • Experience with Data Analysis, Visualization and Presentation; statistical process control.
  • Maintain a positive “can-do” attitude when facing challenging situations, coupled with a willingness to challenge the status quo.
  • Hands-on with the ability to come up with creative design solutions and fabricate/install them.
  • Seeks and recognizes the expertise of other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate successful projects.
  • Familiar with metal stamping & vision inspection process.
