Job description

The College of Engineering and Science is seeking a dedicated and technically skilled Lab Manager to support both teaching and research labs. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in facilitating the smooth operation of our labs, ensuring all equipment and machines are maintained in optimal working condition, and assisting in the procurement of lab supplies. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the safety and efficiency of our labs while working alongside our esteemed faculty in the Frueauff Energy Research Building, the Edwin A. Link Building, and the Mertens Marine Center.

Description:

  • Collaborate with faculty to support the operational needs of teaching and research labs in the OEMS department.

  • Conduct routine maintenance and troubleshooting of lab equipment to ensure all machinery is in good working condition.

  • Manage the procurement process for lab supplies and equipment, including vendor communication, purchase orders, and inventory management.

  • Work closely with the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) department to implement and maintain safety protocols and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements in all OEMS labs.

  • Assist in the setup and takedown of lab experiments and equipment as required by faculty and student research projects.

  • Coordinate with IT and facilities management for any lab infrastructure and technology needs.

  • Provide training and guidance to students and staff on equipment usage and safety procedures.

  • Keep detailed records of equipment maintenance, purchases, and safety inspections.

Requirements:

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in ocean engineering/ marine sciences or related field

  • Minimum of 0-2 years of relevant work experience required

  • Computer Skills- Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power-point, Visio, Outlook) (Required)

  • Strong technical background and expertise in ocean engineering and marine sciences

  • Previous experience in lab management or a related technical leadership role.

  • Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.

  • Knowledge of engineering modeling tools, software, and machinery

  • Technical and hands on experience with lab equipment

  • Ability to repair small equipment problems

  • Familiarity with safety protocols and compliance regulations related to lab environments.
