ResponsibilitiesOCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY

Oversees blood gas safety and education programs, providing employees with a safe work environment, and ensuring compliance to organizational and accreditation agency standards. Provides support to laboratory information systems (LIS) users and works in collaboration with LIS staff in database building, upgrades, ongoing maintenance and education.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides orientation and ongoing staff education on regulatory compliance pertinent to all accreditation agency standards. Monitors staff compliance with safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensures quality controls and other maintenance on blood gas equipment are performed on a defined periodic basis. Collaborates with hospital Bio-medical department and Information Technology to ensure maintenance of past and present equipment.
  • Maintains and updates all blood gas policies and procedures and ensures annual review. Ensures an appropriate level of department testing supplies are present, anticipates usage needs and orders as needed.
  • Maintains department lab records to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Practice proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedure.
  • Works with department clinical specialists to develop and maintain department laboratory orientation
  • Works to ensure interdisciplinary staff meet organizational and accrediting agency requirements through coordination of department education and/or competency.
  • Provides department manager with status of accreditation and licensing on a periodic basis.
  • Participates in the build and implementation of new blood gas modules, software, and interfaces.
  • Assures proper testing and verification procedures are followed and appropriate documentation is
  • Develops and maintains appropriate departmental policies and procedures related to campus LIS and assures compliance with various regulatory agency
  • Provides computer orientation, training and/or in-service to employees, and resolves questions or problems regarding computer systems
  • QualificationsKNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES/LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIRED
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in respiratory therapy, chemistry, biology, lab science or clinical
  • Three years of experience in a high complexity laboratory or respiratory therapy.
  • Must meet requirements as outlined by the Licensure of Clinical Laboratories, State of Georgia.
  •   KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES/LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION PREFERRED
  • Demonstrated knowledge of multiple computer and software
  • Experience as a Lab Technician or quality improvement or related field.
  • Two years of experience with a lab computer system.
  • Ability to develop, organize, and implement projects, programs, or policies
  • Work Hours (EX:7AM-7PM):7:30AM - 4PMWeekend Requirements:Yes- Rotating BasisOn-Call Requirements:NoEmployment Type: FULL_TIME
