Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesClinical & Laboratory Responsibilities
  • Perform venipuncture on pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients.
  • Perform electrocardiograms (EKGs).
  • Perform CLIA waived and moderate complexity laboratory testing.
  • Process specimens for reference laboratories, including centrifugation and aliquoting.
  • Maintain laboratory quality control records and testing logs.
  • Utilize the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) for laboratory documentation and order processing.
  • Reconcile laboratory results for providers.
  • Assist providers with clinical procedures and patient care.
  • Administer clinical procedures within certification and scope of practice.
  • Perform hearing and vision screenings, oral/nasal swabs, pulmonary function testing, and other assigned clinical procedures.
  • Maintain medication and medical supply inventory.
  • Complete monthly supply orders and site checklists.
  • Maintain current CPR, TB testing, and all required certifications/licensure.
Referral Coordination
  • Coordinate specialty referrals as requested by providers.
  • Obtain prior authorizations and pre-certifications.
  • Schedule referral appointments.
  • Document referral activity accurately in the EMR.
  • Communicate appointment information and updates to patients.
  • Follow up on missed referral appointments.
  • Maintain communication with specialty offices and referral partners.
  • Stay current on referral policies and insurance requirements.
Patient Care
  • Deliver excellent customer service to patients.
  • Address patient questions professionally and compassionately.
  • Assist providers with patient flow.
  • Document patient care accurately in the EMR.
  • Assist with medication refill requests and provider messages.
  • Help train new employees and students.
  • Participate in outreach events and community health fairs.
QualificationsRequired
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Current Medical Assistant certification
  • Current CPR/BLS certification
  • Strong computer and EMR skills
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with a multidisciplinary healthcare team
Preferred
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA/RMA)with documented laboratory/phlebotomy training and or experience
