Job description

Job Summary:
The Simulation Laboratory Assistant is responsible for coordinating and maintaining the schedule for both the skills lab and simulation lab to ensure student access and efficient use of resources. This position supports the Simulation Specialist in facilitating skills-based and simulation learning experiences for students.
This is a twelve-month, non-exempt staff position that is currently 100% grant-funded, with the expectation that it will transition to college funding beginning in the 2029-2030 academic year. This position is governed by state and federal laws and institution policy.
Salary: Annual salary of $35,000. Plus, excellent benefit package.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
None
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate scheduling of skills and simulation laboratory with faculty.
  • Preparation for and assistance with skills demonstration.
  • Set up and take down of equipment and supplies needed for skills and/or simulation scenarios.
  • Clean and sanitize applicable areas of laboratory, including mannequins and equipment, prior to and following use.
  • Receive, stock, and organize supplies and equipment in the laboratory setting.
  • Maintain and upkeep the skills and simulation lab including ordering.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and other materials and communicate with SimLab Coordinator when items are needed to be ordered.
  • Launder lab linens as needed and maintain clean linens on beds, stretchers, and in storage area.
  • Preparation for and execution of realistic simulation scenarios for health science students.
  • Transfer mannequins and/or other equipment and supplies as needed to and from storage areas and/or between skills and simulation lab areas
  • Education and training faculty and staff in simulation laboratory equipment.
  • Maintaining all OSHA standards through implementation, labeling, policies, and practices. Keep faculty and students aware of OSHA rules and regulations.
  • Procure, install, configure, operate, maintain, and repair (if possible) medical equipment and simulators, computers, and audiovisual equipment for the simulation lab; develop and implement a maintenance plan for the simulators and equipment to include troubleshooting, and standard maintenance.
  • Provide individual instruction as needed when appropriate.
  • Attend all nursing and simulation program, divisional, and in-service meetings unless excused by the division dean.
  • Communicate efficiently and effectively with South Arkansas College personnel.
  • Maintenance of student records and progress of students working in laboratories.
  • Abide by applicable college policies and procedures
  • Complete and submit applicable paperwork as assigned
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to operate, troubleshoot, and perform maintenance on simulation equipment.
  • Proficiency in simulation software such as Laerdal SimMan, Gaumard, and METI.
  • Competence in using audiovisual equipment and recording software for debriefing sessions.
  • Ability to use information technology for professional productivity (such as Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Excellent organizational skills, including ability to organize supplies, tasks and space.
  • Excellent job attendance, dependability and initiative.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to work professionally and effectively with a diverse faculty, staff and student body.
  • Contribute effectively to a positive work environment that demonstrates and supports a team-centered environment.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently.

Required Education and Experience:
  • Professional certification in nursing, health care, or related technical field.
  • A minimum of one year of experience in a clinical healthcare environment or technical related field involving computer systems or simulation technology.

Physical Requirements:
  • Physical mobility sufficient for moving within a simulation laboratory environment.

  • Operate a computer as needed.
  • Lift 50 pounds.
