Math Learning Lab (MLL) - Computer Science Learning Assistant for 2026-2027

JOB SUMMARY

The Math Learning Lab is seeking qualified and motivated individuals to join our academic support team as Undergraduate Learning Assistant for CSAS Introduction to Program Design I & II. The successful candidates will play a key role in enhancing student success by supporting the students in the class and leading structured group study sessions. As an Undergraduate Learning Assistant, you will collaborate with faculty, provide academic support, and create a positive and engaging learning environment.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Attendance to every class for either CSAS 1114 or CSAS 1115 as assigned

Answering student questions during class

Solving computer technical issues that arise in class

Developing and presenting a selection of programs throughout the semester

Evaluating student programs

Preparing study guides as a student for students

Two weekly office hours with the Professor

Approximately 6-8 hours of tutoring/recitation hours.

Assist in supervision and training of the Computer Science tutors.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Currently enrolled undergraduate student.

Proficiency in Mathematics and Computer Science, with at least a B+ in CSAS 1114, CSAS 1115

GPA in Math and Computer Science of 3.0 or higher.

Experience as a programmer using the Racket-based student language and the Program-by-Design methodology.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse student populations.

Enthusiasm for supporting student success and fostering a positive learning environment.

Recommendation from Dr. Morazan, Dr. Dr. Albagli-Kim or Dr. Hemann is required.

Must have been a CS Peer Tutor for the Math Learning Lab.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Proficiency in Racket-based student language, Java, Python, and Program-by-Design methodology.

Previous tutoring experience preferred.
