Job description

This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a SCADA & Commissioning Engineer to join our Energy team in Boulder, CO.

Be involved in projects with our Energy Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our clients' objectives and solves their challenges. This position will support the delivery of utility-scale renewable energy projects, including Solar PV, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), Wind, Hybrid Energy, and Microgrid facilities, through SCADA, controls, integration, and commissioning activities.

Your Impact
  • Support SCADA and controls engineering activities for Solar PV, BESS, Wind, Hybrid Energy, and Microgrid projects.
  • Assist with the development of SCADA system architecture, point lists, HMI configurations, communication network layouts, and project documentation.
  • Support integration, testing, and validation of plant monitoring and control systems.
  • Participate in factory acceptance testing (FAT), site acceptance testing (SAT), commissioning, startup, and energization activities.
  • Assist with troubleshooting SCADA, controls, communications, and system integration issues throughout project execution and commissioning.
  • Provide field support for installation, testing, commissioning, and operational readiness activities.
  • Conduct periodic site visits to support equipment verification, issue resolution, client coordination, and construction progress reviews.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, vendors, contractors, and clients to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Prepare commissioning reports, test records, system documentation, and project closeout deliverables.
  • Support the continuous improvement of engineering standards, commissioning procedures, and operational practices.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 0-2 years of relevant experience in SCADA, controls, automation, power systems, renewable energy, or related industries.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment while managing assigned tasks independently.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and technical documentation.
  • Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety and quality.
  • Ability to travel occasionally to project sites for testing, commissioning, and field support activities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Exposure to SCADA, PLC, HMI, or industrial control systems through coursework, internships, co-ops, or professional experience.
  • Knowledge of renewable energy technologies, including Solar PV, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), Wind, and Microgrids.
  • Experience supporting testing, commissioning, startup, or field engineering activities.
  • Understanding of power system operations, electrical infrastructure, and plant controls.
  • Internship, co-op, research, or project experience related to energy, automation, controls, or electrical systems.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or the ability to obtain certification.

Expected Salary (all locations): $60,000 - $100,000
