Purpose

The Database Administrator (DBA) is a hands-on role focused on maintaining, optimizing, and securing our SQL Server environments. The DBA brings deep technical expertise, strong operational discipline, and a collaborative mindset to support critical database operations and partner with both Analytics and Application teams.

Responsibilities

  • Administers and maintains SQL Server databases in on-prem and Azure environments.
  • Implements and monitors Always On Availability Groups for high availability and disaster recovery.
  • Performs database backups, restores, and recovery procedures.
  • Optimizes database performance through indexing, query tuning, and capacity planning.
  • Supports application and analytics teams with database deployments, schema changes, and data integrity assurance.
  • Implements and adheres to change management processes for database operations.
  • Ensures compliance with HIPAA and data governance standards.
  • Documents procedures, configurations, and maintain operational runbooks.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience as a SQL Server DBA in on-prem and/or Azure environments.
  • Strong understanding of database performance tuning and optimization.
  • Proven experience with backup strategies, high availability, and disaster recovery.
  • Familiarity with monitoring and alerting tools (e.g., Redgate, SQL Profiler, SolarWinds DPA).
  • Solid understanding of security principles and access management best practices.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and collaboration skills.

Work Environment

This position operates in a home or professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

The employee frequently is required to sit; stand; walk; use hands and fingers to handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
