Work Location: Harrisburg, PA

Location: Must live in Harrisburg, PA, United States

Work Arrangement: Hybrid (1 day onsite per week, remaining days remote)

On-Call: Participation in a 24x7x365 on-call rotation is required

Role Summary

This role provides hands-on technical support for enterprise database environments, with a primary emphasis on PostgreSQL administration and AWS migration work. You will support databases across on-premises and cloud platforms and partner with infrastructure teams, internal stakeholders, and vendors to keep database services secure, stable, and performant. The environment includes modern platform components such as Kubernetes, Percona tooling, and EnterpriseDB (EDB), alongside multiple database technologies including PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL Server, and MongoDB.

Key Responsibilities

•              Administer and support PostgreSQL environments, including performance tuning, monitoring, and troubleshooting.

•              Support cloud initiatives and database migrations to AWS, including planning, execution, and post-migration stabilization.

•              Maintain database structure and operations including backup and recovery, replication/data propagation, and capacity planning.

•              Perform moderately complex database design tasks including analysis, logical data model review, and physical database design.

•              Investigate and resolve database issues by performing root cause analysis and implementing durable fixes or workarounds.

•              Implement and maintain monitoring procedures to maximize database availability, reliability, and performance.

•              Install, configure, and upgrade database software and related tooling to enhance performance and operational efficiency.

•              Monitor database activity and file usage; assess storage requirements and input/output patterns to prevent issues.

•              Collaborate with infrastructure teams to define requirements and request/provision database servers and platform resources.

•              Partner with application teams, functional users, and vendors to support implementations, upgrades, and ongoing operations.

•              Participate in and support infrastructure and database configuration changes, upgrades, and improvements.

•              Ensure database systems are implemented according to published standards and operational best practices.

Required Qualifications

•              Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, plus 2 to 5 years of relevant experience (or an equivalent combination of training, experience, and certifications).

•              Strong PostgreSQL administration experience.

•              AWS migration experience supporting database modernization efforts.

•              Working knowledge of database concepts, physical data modeling, and database design principles.

•              Strong debugging and root cause analysis skills with the ability to dig deeply into complex issues.

•              Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical topics clearly.

•              Ability to plan, organize, and work on multiple tasks simultaneously.

•              Experience supporting PostgreSQL in modern infrastructure environments, including exposure to Kubernetes, Percona tooling, and EnterpriseDB (EDB).

Preferred Qualifications

•              Experience with Microsoft SQL Server.

•              MongoDB experience (administration, tooling, and operational support).

•              MongoDB scaling concepts (Replica Sets and Sharding) and data movement tools (mongodump, mongorestore, mongoexport, mongoimport).

•              Experience with database monitoring tools (mongostat, mongotop).

•              Hands-on experience with Percona tools and/or EnterpriseDB (EDB) features or tooling.

•              Familiarity supporting database services running in Kubernetes (deployments, operational support, monitoring, troubleshooting).

•              Demonstrated ability to learn new tools/technologies quickly and apply them to operational improvements.
