Position Summary

The Activities Assistant supports the planning, coordination, and implementation of a dynamic recreational program designed to promote the physical, emotional, intellectual, social, and spiritual well-being of our residents. Working closely with the Activities Director, this position helps create meaningful experiences that encourage engagement, independence, and an enhanced quality of life for residents of varying abilities and interests.

This position requires flexibility to assist with occasional evenings, weekends, and special events.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Assist in planning, organizing, and facilitating engaging recreational and therapeutic activities that meet the individual needs and interests of residents.

  • Support the development and implementation of activity programs based on residents' care plans and personal preferences.

  • Encourage resident participation while promoting independence, dignity, and social interaction.

  • Provide individualized bedside or in-room activities for residents unable to attend group programs.

  • Coordinate and assist residents during scheduled activities, outings, entertainment, and special events while ensuring resident safety at all times.

  • Help develop and maintain an appealing monthly activity calendar that reflects the interests and abilities of a diverse resident population.

  • Maintain accurate activity documentation in accordance with facility policies and regulatory requirements.

  • Build relationships with community organizations, volunteers, churches, schools, and local groups to enhance resident programming.

  • Assist with decorating the facility for holidays, special events, and seasonal celebrations.

  • Collaborate with nursing, therapy, social services, and other departments to promote resident engagement and overall well-being.

  • Present a positive, professional, and compassionate attitude when interacting with residents, families, visitors, and team members.

  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification required.

  • Six months to one year of experience in activities, recreation, healthcare, or a related field preferred.

  • Experience working in a skilled nursing, rehabilitation, assisted living, or long-term care setting is preferred.

  • Knowledge of the aging process and the recreational needs of older adults.

  • Ability to lead activities independently when the Activities Director is unavailable.

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.

  • Creative, energetic, and enthusiastic personality with a passion for improving residents' quality of life.

  • Ability to work effectively with residents who have cognitive, physical, or sensory impairments.

  • General understanding of activity programming regulations for long-term care facilities.

  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Outlook.
