Job description

Description

The Feed Mill Manager oversees producing the correct commodities and the right amounts of the commodities for Beef Northwest's feeding needs and outside sales.  This means ensuring that all maintenance on the mill equipment is completed and documented.  This also includes training and developing staff's knowledge so the mill can operate both safely and efficiently. Ensure all commodities handled in the mill meet quality and safety specifications.  The Feed Mill Manager will ensure that all possible problems are identified and addressed in a timely fashion. The Feed Mill Manager works closely with the Assistant Manager and Feeding Supervisor.



Duties and Responsibilities

Essential

  • Ensure that all commodities are hauled to the mill for the next day's feeding: 
  • Ensure routine and preventative maintenance is scheduled and performed
  • Ensure critical parts are identified and on hand
  • Operate processing equipment following set procedures to achieve quality control specifications for different commodities
  • Ensure daily housekeeping duties are completed
  • Maintain a schedule for all mill employees
  • Supervise mill employees and set tasks & priorities for the day with follow-up
  • Assist in Budget Development
  • Ensure department is operating efficiently and within Budget
  • Ensure employees are working safely following all safety protocols
  • Handle all commodities following proper sanitary guidelines to maintain product integrity and quality
  • Measuring commodities to ensure accurate inventory levels daily, weekly and monthly
  • Communicate with Yard Manager and other Supervisors on production challenges or quality issues 
  • Consistent and accurate daily commodity samples 
  • Ensure inventory is on hand and accounted for properly
  • Assist in high moisture corn pit fill up each fall

  • Excellent safety skills and awareness needed
  • Excellent computer and keyboarding skills
  • Must be a team player
  • Maintenance knowledge to help crew problem solve and assist if needed
  • Equipment operating experience helpful (i.e. Skid Steer, Loader, Commodity Truck etc.)
  • Basic electrical, pneumatic, mechanical knowledge
  • Be able to read gauges, and take measurements
  • Basic reading, writing and math skills
  • Basic excel skills a plus
