Job description


We're looking for a Compliance Specialist to perform technical and regulatory compliance work supporting the Industrial Pretreatment Program (IPP). You'll conduct field inspections of industrial and commercial facilities, monitor wastewater discharges, collect samples, and support enforcement actions - all in the name of protecting public health, wastewater infrastructure, and environmental quality.
Pay: $24.21 per hour
What you'll do
  • Conduct and document inspections of industrial users; maintain current list of industrial users with open communication channels
  • Perform grease/sand trap inspections and maintain FOG hauling manifests and reporting
  • Schedule and conduct compliance and surcharge monitoring sampling; maintain chain of custody documentation and deliver samples to analytical labs
  • Assist with tracking, interpreting, and applying pretreatment program regulations and local limits
  • Assist with writing and issuing discharge permits and developing Enforcement Response Plans
  • Review industrial process changes that may affect discharge to POTW; assist with diagnosing process problems
  • Assist with reviewing self-monitoring data and determining compliance status; calculate and report surcharges for high-strength loadings
  • Assist with preparing the IPP Annual Report and other required regulatory reports
  • Attend required trainings and complete Industrial Pretreatment Backup training checklist within 3 months of hire
  • Obtain NM Water Sample Tech Levels 1 and 2 within 12 months of hire and maintain valid certifications

What you need
  • High school diploma or GED
  • 1+ year of experience related to Industrial Pretreatment Program
  • Valid New Mexico driver's license
  • Ability to obtain NM Water Sample Tech Levels 1 and 2 within 12 months of hire
  • Strong digital literacy - Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and CMMS platforms
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

Nice to have
  • 3+ years of Industrial Pretreatment Program experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Chemistry, Biology, or related field
  • Experience with industrial pretreatment data tracking software or platforms
