Job description

At Houston Methodist, the Compensation Consultant position is responsible for working and consulting with assigned clients, performing compensation project work, market pricing reviews, pay equity cost modeling, compensation program administration, compensation policy reviews, pay plan maintenance, and analysis and data preparation to support various pay programs.

QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, HR management or related field

EXPERIENCE
  • Three years of Human Resources experience which includes one year of compensation (e.g.market pricing pay equity review, modeling and costing, manipulation and analysis of data)
  • Prior experience with HR/Compensation application systems preferred

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
Preferred
  • Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) WorldatWork certification

  • Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, determined through on-going skills, competency assessments, and performance evaluations

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
PEOPLE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Serves as a resource and trainer for new compensation staff; orients, team members to help build confidence and competency in Houston Methodist systems and compensation practices.
  • Consults with HR partners on operational challenges that impact compensation. In conjunction with Compensation leadership, develops recommendations within compensation guidelines in support of operations.
  • Advises management and HR partners regarding effective use of pay plan policies, practices and tools. Participates in training of new HR partners to effectively operationalize compensation policies and practices.
  • Promotes a positive work environment and contributes to a dynamic, team-focused work unit that actively helps one another to achieve optimal departmental and organizational results.

SERVICE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • In coordination with Compensation leadership, plans and completes compensation projects to support system organizational initiatives. Considers flexible modeling and proposals to balance operational and financial considerations.
  • Assists in special projects with HR partners, in collaboration with operations leaders as needed as it relates to unique job evaluations, market analysis, compensation program administrations, pay for performance initiatives or related compensation issues.
  • Prepares cost analysis associated with pay adjustments or pay program initiatives.

QUALITY/SAFETY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Audits compensation programs and data for assigned projects to ensure accuracy of reporting and payout. Assist colleagues and clients to ensure accuracy of data.
  • Utilizes specialized compensation software to create reports and maintain information on market analysis and pay structures. Performs data management functions and, solves problems related to data integrity.
  • Assesses, analyzes and consults on compensation requests and the impact across entities as well as the entire system. Adheres to all Department of Labor (DOL) and governing body requirements.

FINANCE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • In collaboration with leadership, provides compensation recommendations that offer adaptability for changes in financial or operational goals.
  • Maintains pay tables and salary structure data, participates in survey submissions, presents information to stakeholders as appropriate.
  • Assesses and evaluates the utilization and participation in various annual compensation salary surveys to ensure maximum return on investment.

GROWTH/INNOVATION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Partners with Information Technology, Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS), and other departments as needed to promote accuracy of data and process improvements. Offers innovative solutions through participation in performance improvement projects and activities.
  • Identifies and assumes responsibility of own learning needs and seeks continuing education opportunities to meet those needs. Completes and updates the My Development Plan on an on-going basis. Ensures own career discussions occur with appropriate management.
