Description
Harbor City International School is a small, public charter school serving grades 7-12 in Duluth, MN. The purpose of this position is to engage students in science learning to meet and exceed state standards in an inclusive, small setting focused on academic challenge and community engagement. Courses may include: 7th grade Life Science and 8th grade Physical Science, Biology, Earth and Space Science, Zoology, Environmental Science, Physics.
Responsibilities include:
• Content development and delivery for science courses which may include: 7th grade Life Science, 8th grade • Physical Science, Biology, Earth and Space Science, Zoology, Environmental Science, Physics, AP level courses
• Create a safe, inclusive, culturally responsive environment for all students to engage in classroom and school activities
• Provide effective assessment and feedback to promote academic challenge as well as strong science skills, understandings, and application
• Provide timely and meaningful feedback to students and families
• Make decisions informed by a variety of assessments, tools, and data for science instruction
• Differentiate learning experiences for all students and work with special education staff to provide student accommodations
• Communicate with students, families, and colleagues professionally and effectively including timely email, record keeping, and behavior management
• Oversee an advisory period with SEL, student skill development, academic guidance programming
• Teach 3 Symposium classes- short, special interest classes in January, May, and June
• Maintain reliable professional working habits is attendance, communication, preparedness, and professional growth
• Additional opportunities: club advisement, student travel, school leadership and development committees

Education Requirements
• BA or BS in Science, Science Education, or an equivalent
• Valid MN teaching license in any combination or all science areas for 7-12 grade: Middle School Science, Life Science, Earth Science, and Physical Science or Valid license in current state (will need to complete MN license applications)
