Description
Under general supervision, the Part-Time Program Activity Leader assists with the operation and oversight of Lancaster County Parks & Recreation athletic programs, leagues, tournaments, and facility rentals. This position is responsible for providing on-site support during outdoor athletic rentals, youth sports leagues, and indoor athletic programs. Duties include facility supervision, scorekeeping, customer service, event support, and ensuring facilities remain clean, safe, and welcoming for participants and spectators.
The Program Activity Leader serves as a representative of Lancaster County Parks & Recreation and is expected to maintain a professional demeanor while interacting with participants, parents, coaches, officials, and the general public.
Hours vary based on athletic seasons, facility rentals, tournaments, and special events. Evening and weekend availability is required. During outdoor sports seasons, staff will primarily support athletic fields and rentals. During the winter months, staff will support indoor athletic leagues and gymnasium operations.
Examples of Duties
  • Provide on-site supervision for outdoor athletic facility rentals and youth sports activities.
  • Assist with the operation of indoor athletic leagues and programs during the winter season.
  • Record and report game scores accurately.
  • Monitor games, practices, and facility rentals to ensure compliance with department rules and policies.
  • Maintain order and assist with conflict resolution involving parents, spectators, participants, and volunteer coaches.
  • Serve as a point of contact for participants and visitors during assigned shifts.
  • Assist with field and facility setup and breakdown.
  • Move goals, benches, equipment, and other athletic materials as needed.
  • Perform routine facility inspections and report maintenance or safety concerns.
  • Pick up litter and trash throughout athletic facilities and surrounding grounds.
  • Sweep gym floors, walkways, and common areas as needed.
  • Clean and stock restrooms during events and rentals.
  • Empty trash receptacles and transport trash to designated dumpsters.
  • Ensure facilities remain clean, safe, and presentable throughout assigned events.
  • Assist staff with special events, tournaments, and community programs as assigned.
  • Enforce department policies and promote a positive environment for all participants.
  • Complete incident reports and other documentation as required.
  • Responds appropriately to injuries, emergencies, or unsafe conditions and notifies appropriate staff or emergency personnel as needed.
  • Must successfully complete required background check.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Typical Qualifications
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the public, staff, coaches, and participants.
  • Previous experience in athletics, recreation, customer service, or facility operations is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional during conflicts or difficult situations.
  • Knowledge of basic athletic operations and sportsmanship principles.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and reports.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and perform general cleaning duties.
  • Ability to move athletic goals, equipment, and supplies as required.
