Position Summary
The Lab Manager oversees multiple laboratories within the department. The Lab Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a laboratory facility. This position supervises lab staff, manage resources, and ensure that safety protocols and quality standards are followed. Lab Managers collaborate with researchers, maintain lab equipment, and organize lab supplies. They play a crucial role in maintaining a productive and efficient laboratory environment while promoting a culture of safety and adherence to protocols. The Lab Manager focuses on developing and implementing new educational technologies to enhance the overall educational experience for students.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Manages the lab budget, equipment, and supplies to create an effective learning environment and meet educational requirements.
- Coordinates with external departments regarding the development and renovation of facilities, resolving minor construction issues.
- Authorizes purchases necessary for lab operations and determines new equipment acquisitions.
- Develops community outreach policies and initiatives, facilitating plans for labs and classrooms.
- Assigns tasks to subordinates, including culinary & beverage specialists, instructional technicians, and student employees.
- Maintains records for regulatory compliance and designs/implements laboratory policies and procedures for safety.
- Ensures staff and students complete mandatory trainings and maintains documentation.
- Ensures availability and use of protective gear, adherence to lab protocols, and conducts safety audits.
- Designs and implements new educational systems to enhance the student experience.
- Provides consultation and recommendations on lab equipment, supplies, and technology.
- Serves as a laboratory consultant to the community, promoting CNM's Laboratories and developing outreach strategies.
- Develops and implements strategies related to community outreach and public advertisement, including presenting demonstrations to community visitors.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree and three (3) years of related experience
OR
- Associate's degree and five (5) years of related experience
OR
- High School Diploma and seven (7) years of related experience
- Must show completion (within one year) of the following OSHA Training Courses: Blood Borne Pathogens; Hazard Communications; Slips, Trips & Falls; Laboratory Safety; Lock Out Tag Out; Personal Protective Equipment; Chemical Hygiene, and other OSHA/Safety related courses as identified by CNM.
- Must be able to driver/operate CNM official vehicles.
Preferences:
- Experience in managing budgets
- Experience in procurement
- Experience with inventory control
- One (1) year supervisory experience
