Job description

The Justice Centre Community Operations Coordinator serves as the central hub for on-site Justice Centre operations, administrative and front‑desk services, and community engagement within a dynamic office or community setting. This role is responsible for ensuring the smooth day‑to‑day functioning of the office, client service and programming, coordinating and supporting staff and partners, and fostering a welcoming, organized, and inclusive environment for community members, tenants, and stakeholders.

The Community Office Coordinator plays a key role in creating positive first impressions, strengthening community connections, and supporting programs and services through strong administrative and operational coordination.

Ontario’s Justice Centres are an innovative community court model that integrate early supports into the justice process by bringing together justice, health, employment, education, and social services to address the root causes of crime, break the cycle of offending, and improve public safety and community well-being. Toronto’s Downtown East Justice Centre focuses on breaking the cycle of offending by addressing the root causes of crime for accused at the intersection of poverty, homelessness, mental health and addictions challenges.

This position is a 1-year contract role.

ResponsibilitiesOffice Administration
  • Manage front‑desk reception, including greeting visitors, answering phone and email inquiries, and directing requests appropriately
  • Receive, sort, and distribute mail and deliveries
  • Maintain organized filing systems (digital and physical)
  • Purchase and track office supplies and ensure adequate inventory levels
Facility & Space Coordination
  • Ensure the office or community space is clean, functional, safe, and welcoming
  • Coordinate maintenance, repairs, and service requests with facility contractors and partners, including justice centres where applicable
  • Monitor shared spaces to maintain aesthetic standards and operational readiness
Community Engagement & Support
  • Support the development, planning, implementation and delivery of community programming, events, workshops, and volunteer initiatives
  • Act as a liaison between the organization and residents, tenants, clients, or community partners
  • Foster and enhance positive, respectful relationships with on-site service delivery partners, community members and external stakeholders
Operational & Administrative Support
  • Coordinate meeting room bookings and support meeting logistics
  • Maintain and update databases, records, and tracking systems
  • Assist with onboarding and offboarding processes for staff, students, volunteers, or clients
  • Provide general administrative support to program and operations staff as needed
Communication & Coordination
  • Support internal and external communications with partners, vendors, and community stakeholders
  • Ensure timely and professional follow‑up on inquiries and requests
Organizational
  • Conduct job responsibilities with a commitment to harm reduction, trauma- informed, women-centred and anti-oppressive practices.
  • Abide by the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and work in a manner that is safe, reporting incidents immediately to direct supervisor.
  • Adhere to the policies and procedures of The Jean Tweed Centre.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in order to meet the overall goals and objectives of The Jean Tweed Centre.
  • Maintain a client service orientation including learning about/addressing client needs and concerns.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Business Administration, Social Work or relevant field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 2-3 years’ experience in related field.
  • Knowledge and understanding of women’s issues, particularly as they relate to women with substance use, mental health and/or gambling concerns.
  • Excellent decision-making, problem-solving and conflict/crisis management skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive and collaborative working relationships with individuals and teams.
  • Strong computer skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Administrative, project management and program development skills.
