POSITION TITLE: McKinney-Vento Liaison
REPORTS TO: Superintendent or Designee
PAY SCHEDULE: $30,000 - $40,000
EFFECTIVE: September 1, 2026
JOB SUMMARY: The McKinney-Vento Liaison is responsible for coordinating District services and supports for students and families experiencing homelessness in accordance with the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act, applicable state and federal requirements, and District policies.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and /or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Bachelor's degree in education, social work, counseling, human services, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience working with students and families experiencing housing instability, economic hardship, or other barriers to educational access preferred.
  • Knowledge of the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act and related student rights or the ability to obtain such knowledge.
  • Knowledge of community resources and social-service agencies.
  • Strong organizational, communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with families, school personnel, community agencies, and other school districts.
  • Ability to manage confidential and sensitive information appropriately.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and complete required reports.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Identify students and families who may qualify for services under the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act.
  • Ensure eligible students are immediately enrolled in school and have full and equal access to educational programs and services.
  • Assist families with determining school-of-origin rights and coordinate transportation when required.
  • Work with administrators, counselors, social workers, transportation personnel, enrollment staff, and other District employees to remove barriers to enrollment, attendance, participation, and academic success.
  • Inform parents, guardians, and unaccompanied youth of their educational rights and available District and community resources.
  • Coordinate referrals for educational, health, housing, food, clothing, transportation, and other appropriate community services.
  • Support unaccompanied youth in accessing educational services and completing processes related to enrollment and educational stability.
  • Facilitate and document the McKinney-Vento dispute-resolution process when eligibility, enrollment, school selection, or other services are disputed.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records regarding students identified as experiencing homelessness and ensure appropriate reporting of required data.
  • Provide information, training, and technical assistance to District staff regarding the identification of students experiencing homelessness and the District's responsibilities under McKinney-Vento.
  • Collaborate with neighboring school districts, intermediate school districts, shelters, community organizations, and governmental agencies to coordinate services.
  • Monitor student attendance, enrollment, mobility, and other relevant information to identify potential barriers to educational success.
  • Assist with the coordination and appropriate use of federal, state, and local resources designated to support students experiencing homelessness.
  • Maintain confidentiality and handle student and family information in accordance with FERPA and applicable District policies and legal requirements.
  • Perform other duties consistent with the position as assigned by the Superintendent or designee.

EVALUATION:
Job performance is evaluated in accordance with district guidelines.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
The amount of contract, length of the workday and the number of workdays at this time is determined by the Superintendent and/or his/her designee.
