Job description

Assistant Director for Alumni Engagement

Mount Mercy University invites applications for an Assistant Director for Alumni Engagement to help strengthen relationships with alumni, donors, and community partners while advancing the University's mission and strategic priorities. This position plays a key role in developing meaningful programs, communications, and events that foster lifelong connections between the University and its alumni community. The position is based on Mount Mercy University's campus in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development and execution of a comprehensive alumni engagement strategy designed to increase alumni participation and philanthropic support.
  • Lead the planning and execution of key alumni programs and events, including Homecoming, reunions, alumni awards programs, spirit and support days, and other engagement opportunities.
  • Coordinate all aspects of event management, including vendor relations, volunteer coordination, logistics, promotion, budget tracking, reporting, and post-event assessment.
  • Develop and manage alumni communications across multiple platforms, including social media, email newsletters, and the alumni website.
  • Create engaging content that strengthens alumni connections, promotes giving opportunities, and enhances community engagement.
  • Collaborate with campus partners to plan and implement special events that support university priorities, including campaign events, dedications, and recognition programs.
  • Coordinate communications, meetings, and activities for the Alumni Board.
  • Assist with donor cultivation and alumni solicitation efforts, including giving day initiatives and student engagement programs.
  • Provide guidance and direction to student employees and work-study students.
  • Support occasional evening and weekend events and limited travel as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Experience in alumni relations, advancement, event planning, communications, marketing, or a related field preferred.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Experience creating content for digital communications and social media platforms.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with alumni, donors, volunteers, and campus partners.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and constituent relationship management databases preferred.
