Position Summary


The Director of Nursing is responsible for overseeing the daily nursing and clinical operations within the hospital, ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centered care. Reporting to the Chief Nursing Officer, this position provides operational leadership for nursing services by ensuring appropriate staffing, efficient patient flow, regulatory compliance, and the consistent execution of nursing practice standards.

The Director of Nursing works closely with house supervisors, physicians, department leaders, administrators, and other healthcare professionals to ensure the smooth operation of patient care services while fostering a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.


Essential Responsibilities
  • Lead the daily operations of nursing departments, including Medical/Surgical, Emergency Department, Outpatient Nursing, and other assigned areas.
  • Ensure safe staffing levels and appropriate resource allocation to meet patient care needs.
  • Recruit, mentor, develop, and evaluate nursing leaders and staff.
  • Oversee scheduling, productivity, employee performance evaluations, and staff development.
  • Collaborate with house supervisors and department leaders to effectively manage patient flow and operational challenges.
  • Implement nursing policies, clinical standards, and quality initiatives established by the Chief Nursing Officer.
  • Promote evidence-based practice and a culture of patient safety, accountability, and service excellence.
  • Monitor departmental productivity, budgets, and resource utilization while maintaining high-quality patient care.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, CMS Conditions of Participation, and DNV accreditation standards.
  • Collaborate with physicians, executive leadership, and interdisciplinary teams to improve patient outcomes and operational performance.
