This role involves designing and implementing training programs, providing instruction and feedback, and fostering a positive and competitive environment for athletes.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:Maintain a valid American Red Cross Water Safety certification, a valid American Red Cross Basic Life Support certification, and a valid American Red Cross Bloodborne Pathogens certificationTeach swimming and water safety skills to students of all ages and abilities, following the curriculum outlined by the American Red CrossUtilize all teaching tools provided, complete attendance records, track students' progress, complete course completion cards, and submit all Red Cross Course RecordsTeaching relevant skills, tactics, and techniques to a wide range of athletes, individuals, and groupsMonitoring, evaluating, and enhancing participant performance and needsProviding suitable feedback via positivity, encouragement, example, and motivationDemonstrating an activity clearly by breaking down the task or technique into a sequenceMaintain participant safety through preventative instructionUnderstand and enforce all rules and regulationsAlways be in the water with each class for all levelsCheck the area for safety hazards and try to eliminate themEnsuring a safe environment for all participantsImplementing the lesson plans in an accurate, creative, positive, and efficient fashionAll additional duties assigned by managementTHE IDEAL CANDIDATE HAS:Have a thorough understanding of swimming fundamentals, progressions, and techniques for swimmers of all ages. Must be willing to teach swimmers of all abilities, including students with increased needs.Experience and success in customer service, leadership, and team buildingAction-oriented personality with a 'get it done' attitude and proficiency for efficiencyMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Has American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) or willing to obtainHas American Red Cross Lifeguard and First Aid, CRP/AED or willing to obtainRequires excellent communication skills, both verbal and writtenMust be detail-oriented and have outstanding organizational skillsAbility to maintain focus in a high-volume, fast paced environmentMust be at least 16 years of ageWORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Must be able to spend up to 4 consecutive hours of time in the water while instructingMust be able to perform the physical labor required to physically support students of all ages in the waterMust be able to properly perform all skills in the lesson plans throughout the course of employmentMust be able to lift 50 pounds waist highMay be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time whether indoors or outdoors, and squat, stoop, or bendWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee may work in direct sunlight and be exposed to outside weather conditions.
