Job description

JOB SUMMARY
The Custodian, as part of a shift team, is responsible for maintaining the overall cleanliness of Community Bible Church facilities and exterior grounds. This role includes performing a variety of tasks that support and prepare for services and events. Work assignments are delegated by the Head Custodian designated for the shift, though occasional requests may come from individuals conducting events or classes within the church facilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Reasonableaccommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to performthe essential functions.
  • Cleaning, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, sweeping, shampooing & steam cleaning carpets, and trash removal in all facilities of the church (to include halls, classrooms, sanctuary, gym, kitchen, restrooms, and concession areas)
  • Set up rooms for meetings and events (setting up and tearing down furniture arrangements for various functions scheduled in church facilities and classrooms)
  • Strip, seal, finish, and polish floors
  • Service, clean, and supply restrooms
  • Gather and empty trash
  • Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing or vacuuming them
  • Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment, in order to prevent damage to floors and fixtures
  • Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, and squeegees
  • Mix water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications
  • Clean and polish furniture and fixtures
  • Dust furniture, walls, machines, and equipment
  • Maintain organization and cleanliness of supply closets
  • Notify managers concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems
  • Requisition supplies and equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties
  • Other duties, as assigned by Head Custodian or Custodial Supervisors

  • Possess strong communication skills in the English language (verbal and writing)
  • Ability to maintain professional relationships

  • Knowledgeof general custodial, cleanliness, and sanitation processes
  • Abilityto use hand tools and power tools

  • Responsible for communicating in a professional, polite, and courteous manner to all staff, members, and guests of the church
  • Highest level of personal integrity with an uncompromised commitment to the maintenance of the confidentiality and privacy of all personal and church matters, data, and information

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
Overnight, Wednesday-Sunday from 9:00 PM - 5:00 AM. Evening, weekend, and holiday duties areneeded as job duties demand.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
While performing the duties of this job, theemployee may be regularly required to do the following:
  • Must have good or corrected vision as well as effective peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
  • Must have good manual dexterity and be able to use repetitive motion of the hands and arms
  • Must be able to frequently stand and or walk for long periods of time
  • Must be able to move about inside and outside the building to perform a variety of tasks
  • Must be able to frequently and effectively communicate in both written and verbal form
  • Must be able to lift at least 75 lbs. and push/pull carts/racks in excess of 100 lbs.
  • Frequently reaching, stooping, kneeling, and crouching
  • Must be physically able to climb ladders, bend and crawl in awkward spaces
  • Ability to work collaboratively and communicateeffectively with team members at all levels of the organization

EDUCATIONAND EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Based on the company's needs, experience may be required

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Duties are performedin a variety of settings to include, outside, office, and technical settings wherethe work and general environment may be fast-paced and hectic at times. Therefore,it is essential that the employee can effectively handle the normal anxieties associatedwith the job and manage multiple projects in a service-oriented environment. Environmentalnoise levels are minimal.
