Communications Internships information

What is a communications internship?

Communications internships are temporary positions designed to give students or recent graduates hands-on experience in the field of communications. Interns typically assist with tasks such as drafting press releases, managing social media, organizing events, and supporting internal and external communication strategies. These internships help individuals develop practical skills, build a professional network, and gain insight into potential career paths within public relations, marketing, media, and corporate communications. The experience gained can be valuable for securing full-time roles in the industry after graduation.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a communications intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Communications Intern, you need strong writing, research, and organizational skills, often supported by coursework in communications, public relations, or journalism. Familiarity with content management systems, social media platforms, and basic design or analytics tools like Canva and Google Analytics is typically expected. Creativity, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate and take feedback make candidates stand out in this role. These skills and qualities are essential to producing effective communications, supporting team objectives, and gaining valuable hands-on experience in a professional environment.

What types of projects can I expect to work on during a communications internship?

During a Communications Internship, you can expect to assist with a variety of projects such as drafting press releases, managing social media accounts, creating internal newsletters, and supporting event planning or media outreach efforts. Interns often collaborate closely with communications teams to help execute campaigns and monitor media coverage. This hands-on experience provides exposure to both internal and external communications while developing valuable skills in writing, digital content creation, and stakeholder engagement.
