Job description

At GEICO, we offer a rewarding career where your ambitions are met with endless possibilities.

Every day we honor our iconic brand by offering quality coverage to millions of customers and being there when they need us most. We thrive through relentless innovation to exceed our customers' expectations while making a real impact for our company through our shared purpose.

When you join our company, we want you to feel valued, supported and proud to work here. That's why we offer The GEICO Pledge: Great Company, Great Culture, Great Rewards and Great Careers.

GEICO is creating a new, dedicated marketing communications function, and we are looking for a Director to build and lead this vital new mission. Sitting within GEICO's Corporate Communications team, this role works in close partnership with the GEICO Marketing department to identify opportunities early while ensuring all communications align with GEICO's broader narrative.

GEICO is on an exciting journey to transform into a more modern marketing organization, and this role is central to how we tell that story both internally and externally. The mandate is simple: elevate the GEICO brand through proactive, strategic communications that showcase the innovative work happening across the company.

This is a true builder role, with the opportunity to launch marketing communications as a new capability - from strategy and team design to agency model, processes, and ways of working. The ideal candidate is energized by a blank piece of paper and the chance to put their fingerprints on a new function built from the ground up.

This role operates in a high visibility, fast-moving environment supporting one of the most recognizable brands in the country.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a proactive marketing communications strategy that elevates GEICO's brand in trade, business, and consumer media while also telling the story to our associate population, with a focus on driving outsized share of voice and strengthening GEICO's marketing reputation.
  • Leverage existing relationships with key publications to secure meaningful coverage of GEICO's marketing evolution, campaigns, partnerships, and creative work.
  • Serve as an embedded communications partner within the Marketing organization, attending leadership meetings, planning sessions, and strategy discussions to identify storytelling opportunities early.
  • Advise senior marketing leaders on media opportunities, thought leadership, and external visibility.
  • Support executive and internal communications for marketing leadership, including talking points, town halls, and organizational messaging.
  • Explore and integrate AI-enabled tools, platforms, and agents as a core accelerator for marketing communications by scaling media intelligence, outreach, content development, and measurement across the PR ecosystem.
  • Manage a small team and serve as the day-to-day point of contact with our agency partners, setting priorities, directing outreach, and ensuring the agency is delivering work that meets our standards and elevates the brand.
  • Serve as a communications liaison across GEICO's broader roster of external agencies - including creative, media, and digital partners - to ensure alignment on messaging, brand voice, and proactive storytelling opportunities.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of communications experience with a focus on marketing communications, brand PR, and consumer communications.
  • Experience in both agency and in-house settings. You understand how to manage and get the best out of agency partners - both a dedicated communications agency and the broader ecosystem of creative, media, and digital agencies that support a large marketing organization.
  • Experience building new capabilities in fast-paced, dynamic environments. Comfortable operating with ambiguity and taking an entrepreneurial approach to problem-solving.
  • Retail or consumer brand PR experience strongly preferred.
  • Established relationships with reporters and editors at major marketing and advertising trade publications.
  • Proven ability to secure top-tier media placements and build sustained narrative campaigns.
  • Experience supporting senior executives with communications strategy, media preparation, and public visibility.
  • Exceptional writing, strong project management instincts, and a collaborative approach.

Annual Salary

$140,425.00 - $229,600.00

The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate's work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.

At this time, GEICO will not sponsor a new applicant for employment authorization for this position.
